Alternate wiring for Kicker sub with Bose system. (DO THIS)

For the guys looking for easier access to the sub wires, aft passenger sill plate.

Here are my Kicker sub wires tapped into the Bose harness. I decided to add a pair of connectors just in case I want to change polarity, I've seen others say It sounds better out of phase. For now I have it wired normal.

 

(-) Kicker Brown => (-) Bose Subwoofer Green/Black

 

(+) Kicker Green => (+) Bose Subwoofer Blue/GRAY

Please be aware that all of the guidance on where the grommet through the firewall is located only applies to models earlier than 2024. For some reason, it's in a much more difficult to access location under the battery. There's a post here or on one of the other forums documenting it, here's a newer one I just found on here: 

 

I have all the equipment but have been too lazy to tackle this. I tried it over the summer in 100 degree weather, and after removing the battery and tray and not finding the old grommet, I got pissed off and gave up. That was before I found the new location though.

I wouldn’t get intimidated by someone else’s write up, it’s really not bad. I’m fat and old and it was no problem routing the power wire threw the firewall. 

I used the Online Installation Guide from Kicker, and the associated video Here:

Remove the bracket, use a solid 10ga or similar wire as a fish tape, (I didn’t cut off the nipple, just pierced a hole with a awl) poke it threw with a slight upward curve,  reach behind the battery and pull it threw. Tape on the harness (I used talcum power to lube it up so it would slide threw easily) and carefully pull it into the cabin.

 

If you are in the area, I’ll help you out.

Thank you so much for sharing that video! Between that and the newer thread I posted, there should be enough documentation for me to tackle it once it warms up a bit. I was going to run the power cable down the passenger side sills, any issues there?

You're spot-on! I actually pierced from inside the cab out with an awl, then fed my fish wire that way as it was easier to hit the center of the grommet than from the outside. I actually found it was easier on my '24 than it was on my '22 with all the BCM's & harnesses on the drivers side.

No, plenty of room in those chases. The passenger side is the best route anyway for the refreshed trucks.

Yes, definitely pierce threw the fitting from the cabin side with an awl and push your fish tape threw twords the battery.

 

Yes, definitely run everything down the passenger side sill plate, there are a few obsticles near the seat belt attachment, but you have a good view from front and back of the center post to make sure you are clear of wires and stuff.

Thanks for posting these pictures! I was thinking i needed to intercept those wires in the center console somehow. 

I am getting close to have enough points to pay for the Kicker sub up front, so hopefully early next year i'll be doing this mod. I had a decent system in my old F150, and went base to basic stock in my 2012 Silverado. Looking forward to a little extra bump in my 2024 GMC.

I used my 12v stab tester to pierce from the inside of the cab. Also, I'm in construction, so a piece of suspended ceiling support wire works great for a fish wire.

Have they changed the sub wiring coloring for the newer (2024) trucks.  Trying to install the Kicker base sub kit.  My twisted pair is yellow/white and yellow/blue.  No yellow and yellow/black.

I have a 2024 and my wires were green/black and blue/grey. Not sure if all trucks are the same though. Mine is a 2024 SLT. Denali or AT4 may be different since they have an upgraded Bose system. Just speculation on my part though.

Keep digging, they should be blue/grey, & green/black

Great post, I'll swap mine over from yellow and yellow/black and see how it is.  Do i need to change the fuse or anything?
