Is it possible to take a fob from one truck, a '21 serria 1500, and do the learn procedure in another truck, a '22 serria 3500, and have one fob control both trucks?

Try it and let is know.

I tried to do that with fobs for 2 honda (motorcycles - same model and year) -- and during investigation found out that the learn procedure is a 'two-way' learn.

Once of fob had been paired with a vehicle it could not be paired with another vehicle.

I suspect that this is so there is 'zero' value in a stolen fob...??

I'm curious if GM does the same thing.

The dealer told me that you can program 3 key FOBs to our trucks but bring the other 2 and $100.00.  They let me pick which one I want to be 1, 2 and 3 but the preset interior controls will only respond to 1 and 2.  3 still works but no interior presets respond to it.

Thanks for the info.

I bought a 3rd remote and programmed it to the 1500. Then took the blank key and had the parts department cut it to the 1500 key

New 3500 has been invoiced to the dealer, but hasn't shown up yet. Was prematurely thinking.

redwngr...I will program the 3rd fob I have to the 3500 and see if the fob controls the 1500 afterwards, if there isn't a post about it not working, before then. I will report back here my findings.

A few things to consider. Rolling codes. The fob transmits a code, if the vehicle recognizes the code, it works. Consider that one fob could unlock both vehicles if they are in close proximity. One fob would set off both horns/lights if the panic button is pressed. Remote start, may start both vehicles, however, I'm not sure of that part. Just my 2 cents worth.

NO, it is not possible to have 1 fob control 2 trucks.  Each fob, be it a push button start or physical key start is programmed ONLY to the vehicle it is programed to.

On the pushbutton trucks, that fob is also the key and therefore is even more encrypted and coded to the truck.  The pushbutton start fobs also learn the VIN into the fob for identification.

So in reality, you're saying if a person takes a fob that has been programmed to a vehicle, then program it to a 2nd, the process "clears/overwrites" the fobs memory and writes new memory of the 2nd.

Or the fobs can only be programmed to 1 vehicle and that's it. Can't be reprogrammed ever? Just like you can only cut a physical key once.

Once its programmed, its done on the pushbutton trucks.  One truck.

I had bought a 3rd fob for my 1st 2021 it was totaled but I kept the fob hoping to use it when I got another. After getting a new truck I went to the dealer with the third fob, as someone above said it stores the first Vin# in the fob so can never be used again. No way to clear it.
