Software Updates?
Just took my 2019 Custom with IOR 7" Stereo in for a problem with the radio, and the dealership told me I needed a "Software Update" and wanted $400 for it. Luckily the dearship that sold me the truck 2 months ago was kind enough to offer me reimbursement for this. But does this make sense? Why in the bloody Hell should we have to pay 400 dollars an hour for Software updates? And, how often in the future will I need more of these?

Do you have updates turned on in your truck? 2) Is your truck connected to Wifi to receive the updates? 3) Is your truck out of warranty? The dealer should only charge you if it was out of warranty.

Not free once out of warranty.  They are covered under warranty if you bring it in for a problem and an update will fix it, otherwise at the dealer it costs to update.

Certain radios in these now have over the air update capability that can do it on its own.

Do they really update OTA though? The 21 Sierra I traded in had a 2020 version of the software installed on it. Anytime I told it to check for updates, it always said there wasnt any.

My 2020 1500 LT with IOS Infotainment System received an OTA update to U157.3.1 on 4/4/2022; I'm still under warranty. Cannot find what tweaks this update did.

I am having issues with the infotainment as it does not show in the DIC when switching channels. So If i have Waze on the radio display and switch up a channel. I cannot see in the DIC what channel. I was told there is an update so it trancends from radio to DIC. Works sometimes but mostly not. Hmm, have to see if i have over air updates turned on?????

I had checked the Head unit screen for updates a few weeks ago and it told me there we r e not any available at that time. But yes, truck is out of warranty by 2 weeks. F--- Me. I just think it's totally ubsurd that we should pay for stupid software updates. When there's an update available for my Windows computer, Microsoft dosent charge for it! But this crook dealership charged 400 bucks for this update and it literally took them less than an hour after diagnosing. Rip off

While I agree that $400 is too much, the windows comparison is not valid since there isn't a tech applying the update. If you take your computer to a repair shop and they have to apply an update you will be charged for the techs time.

I would ask for a good will update since you are only 2 weeks out of warranty.

    • Real Truck handles the warranty via GM.  We don't submit a warranty claim with GM, we have to submit it with Real Truck with a specific email/phone number.  Real Truck determines if the issue is covered or not based on the issue and pictures submitted.
    • Some clarification may help with some of these issues.   - Rev Industries is/was the division of BAK (now Realtruck) that makes covers under the OEM names.  So if you see one with a Ford logo on it, or if you are buying the GM Accessories cover, you are essentially buying a BAK G2 cover with different branding.   - Rev Industries now markets under RealTruck "Advantage."   - As of May 1, 2025, the Advantage covers now have a 5 year warranty.  Anything before that was a 36/36K warranty.   - Parts for the covers are available from Realtruck or BAK.  The email address to reach them is [email protected] or you can call them at 818-365-9000   - If the entire cover has to be replaced, you have to go through your local GM dealer.  Service dept opens an RO, notes the damage and submits it as a warranty claim.  Keep your paperwork handy so they can confirm when you purchased it and it's within the warranty timeframe.  Once the warranty claim is approved, Parts orders the replacement cover.  When it arrives at the dealership, service will remove and install the new one for free as labor is included under warranty.   - The Advantage covers are not the latest and greatest Gen 3 covers.  They still use the old school clamps, elevator bolts, etc...If you want the newer technology, consider buying your cover in the aftermarket world.  That way, if you have an issue you can deal directly with the manufacturer.   - Finally, RealTruck has a program with many of their authorized dealers that doubles the warranty to 10 years if the authorized dealer does the install.     Hope this helps.
    • Welcome to the group!  My '22 just crossed 150K miles.  Runs perfectly.  Oil pump belt will be done in the next 30 days or so and onward hopefully for another 150K.  Love the truck.
    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
