After owning a Ford for years, I want to buy either a Sierra 3500 or a Silverado 3500. What is the difference? Both will cost me around the same, but I like the Alaskan package with the Silverado so that might be the tie breaker. They both seem to be nearly identical.

Sorry if I sound naïve, but which truck will be the better value? I currently tow a 9000lb, 37ft camper and I need to be able to tow it safely.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry! I should've mentioned that my budget is around 50k... I do get a GM supplier discount which helps a ton.

Gorgeous truck though! The wife and I test drove a Denali and I wanted to take it home, just not at a $80k price tag!

Thank you.  I tell everyone it's not mine, I just get to drive it.  When I die it stays here.  I tell everyone who admires my truck this same story to tell them about Jesus.  Everything I have belongs to Him.   I understand about the $80k price tag.  The prices of some trucks are outrageous.

The trucks are the same, it's just what you like for looks. Made a mental note to not ask Ben about his truck in the future too. 😄

To be honest a 2500 truck would tow that trailer no problem too.

If you can get the same options, it comes down to looks. I found at the lower price points ~$50k, Chev has more ala carte options whereas GMC is more package based. Example why I went to Chev: could get center console in LT and not available in GMC SLE.

If I go with the 2500 Silverado, I actually get another package (work truck convenience package) and I save a few bucks. Seems like the way to go, as long as it tows my camper good I'll be happy!

Both are beautiful trucks.  I would look for which dealer is most confident in processing your order, so that it doesn't end up in a parking lot somewhere waiting on a part.

Someone posted that the '23 order window would be opening up in May.  That may be worth investigating.

Good luck whichever way you go!

One important note about the Alaskan package, if you care, or if it matters to you.

The Alaskan package comes with MT tires.  These look great, BUT, GM de-rates tongue weight and towing compared to other tires.  It is somewhere around 1200 pounds tongue weight (vs 1450 gas) and 12000 towing (vs 14500 gas).  This will show up on the B pillar sticker.

These MT tires are used on other packages like the Z71 Sport, but that would fall out of your target price range anyways.

The GMC doesn't offer much, but one difference (if you care) is that GMC will have LED headlights/tail lights (mixed with some halogen), where the Chevy trucks would only have it for the cab markers and mirror lights until you step up to the LT Z71 Sport or LTZ.  Otherwise, the GMC trucks are pricier without offering much more other than a different style.

As noted, they do package them different, some better, some worse.

Mechanically, and capability wise, they are the same.  I have heard people argue that the GMC is a superior truck in terms of quality, but I have owned both over the years, and never saw a difference in quality, but everyone has different experiences, so your experience may as well.

Both really nice trucks, whichever you choose.

I actually built them in college,  same trucks short of a few physical features on the outside and stickers.  Whatever you like better.  TBH unless its an AT4 I think the GMCs are the ugly truck this time around for the 3/4 and 1 tons

i prefer GMC......had 2 of each in last 2 years and just the small touches GMC does feel bit better imo......the guage cluster looks better.....standard multi tailgate, LED lights in lower trim, just small things but noticeable
