Keyless Entry keypad

Has anyone added the keyless entry keypad to their truck? I just saw it on the accessories website and its $145 and says its wireless and just sticks to the side of the truck. I've been a Ford guy up until 2020 when I bought my GMC and the keyless entry is one of the things I missed most from my Fords. Does the adhesive hold up well? I'd like to look at adding this on my next service visit but if its not worth the extra cash I'll just have to continue to make sure I have my keys on me every time I need to grab something from my truck.

You have to get the dealer to program the keypad to the remote but I asked them not to stick it to the truck. I ended up sticking it on the inside of my gas tank cover and it's been there going on 2.5 years now, no issues and works great.

Ditto on putting under the gas tank cover. No problems with the one on the Colorado.

Note, there is NOT one available for the refreshed 2022.

The myChevrolet app has an unlock feature for the refreshed 2022, but that might entail having Onstar forever.

The unlock feature in the Chevy app has been around a lot longer than the 22 refresh.

I just saw on another forum that the batteries are not replaceable. The whole unit will have to be replaced which is kind of crappy. $140 isn't something I want to spend once knowing a few years I'll have to do it again.

That's steep for new batteries, plus the cost of install.

From what people have found out in the past with those keypads. They are wireless. They do just peel and stick on. They Don't have a battery you can replace. You have to buy a new one when the battery goes out.

I talked to my GMC service advisor yesterday and he said that you cannot lock your keys in the vehicle if you add the wireless keypad. He said that one guy is able to do it and they're not sure how but other people have added them thinking they will be able to lock their keys in their vehicle like with Fords but cannot.

That's kind of strange that you cannot replace the batteries, but batteries last a lot longer than they used to. When I traded in my 2015 Sierra in 2021 I had never replaced the batteries in my fobs after 6 years and the signal was still strong from a far distance. And that was after being used multiple times a day every day. I imagine a remote keypad that is only used a few times a month or less will last at least 10 years. Not that much of a concern in my opinion, but still a very strange design choice.

They've had it since at least 2014, when it was called 'Onstar Remote Link'.

I think the advisor is wrong. The product page on the Chevy accessories site specifically says: "Allows you to leave your keys securely locked in your car when not in use".

If you get 6 years on new fobs with the push button start, you'd make a fortune selling that battery.

We have customers in weekly with 2 and 3 year old vehicles needing new fob batteries. They don't last anymore with keyless start. The old stuff used to go 5-10 years not needing a fob battery.

That makes sense since the fob is always transmitting I think. I heard that they don't last as long.

But the remote keypad is like the old keyed fobs and only transmits when you enter the code, so it should last 5-10 years I would hope.
