I got in an accident the other day. Driver at fault does not have insurance and I don't have uninsured motorist coverage so my insurance will not cover me.

Anyone know of where I can sell my truck to and get as much value as possible?

Interior and front end/engine/transmission are all still in perfect working order...it's just the rear end that has issues and it does have some frame damage as well. Curtain airbags deployed

Pictures for reference.

No collision on a new truck??

I agree wtf???

If this is something you told your insurance you didn't want or need, if so then consider this a very expensive learning experience. As said above i take it your truck is paid off, if it has a loan that coverage is mandatory, or at least it is in my state. Frame damage and also airbags deployed = total loss imo. That thing will cost a lot to make right again imo.

You need a lawyer before ever consider selling the truck.

Really?  Why?

Lawyers only take cases if there's a paycheck in it for them.  No money here, unless you pay by the hour.

Because the other driver didn't have insurance. He needs to be able to recoup his loss. A lawyer is the only way to file a lawsuit against someone. The person would get a judgement against them requiring them to pay whatever losses the OP had.

No way I'd just go "eh, whatever" with a $60k loss. That person who is responsible should be paying up.

Looks like the driveshaft took care of that.

If you hadn't left the hitch installed, the frame would have absorbed much of the impact with much less damage overall.

Does anyone else think its weird that (if we has full coverage) his insurance wont cover the cost of repairs and then go after the person for damages?

Can't deposit a judgement in a bank account....

There is usually a reason peeps can't afford or are ineligible for vehicle insurance.

Can't write a $60k loss off on your taxes either unless it is owned by a business. I wouldn't just let it go.

Sometimes that's just the way it is. Poors that do carry insurance in a lot of states go with plans like "Safe Auto" with a $10k max.

Even if one were to lose a $100,000 vehicle and have a half mil in hospital bills all they will ever see is $10k.

It makes sense to pay a liitle more to CYA against the uninsured/underinsured drivers.

Not knowing all the details from OP (his coverage, state where the loss took place, etc.) makes much of this discussion about the other driver kind of moot.  If he carries collision, his insurance company will pay him, it's contractual, unless there's something we don't know that would invalidate it, like an intentional act or something unusual.

My point about the lawyer is that they don't work for free (unless it's your spouse or someone you are very good friends with :-)). It's either by the hour or as a portion of what they actually recover.  And you know what they say about getting blood from a stone, right.

Yeah that is a dead end, seeing this is Texas it could very likely be an illegal alien that hit him.  I agree the lawyer thing will only cost the OP more money, I'm just kind of dumb founded on why a truck this new would have light coverage like this, especially in a state that is literally overrun with illegals who couldn't give 2 craps about our rules and laws!
