Using non approved fluids will void the warranty.  Neither Amsoil nor Redline produce any Dexos licensed fluids.

Maybe you should show your dealer the Mag Moss Warranty Act and try to demand free transmission fluid?  Let me know how it goes.

Doesn't have to be "licensed" to be covered under Mag Moss. And sir, the proof it on them, not you. They have to PROVE your chosen product CAUSED the failure. That is a tough nut for them to crack. Impossible to do more cheaply than fixing the thing. They cannot TRAP you into using only their products. Sort of the point of Mag Moss. It's illegal. They imply it but cannot enforce it upon those not ignorant of the facts or the laws.

Then there's this commonsense idea:

Say GM says you will void your warranty if you park under a roof. You live in an area where hail is very common. Do you leave it under the roof and protect the vehicle or outside and protect the warranty? 😏

It's okay to be your own advocate and do as you please. It affects me not one way or the other.

I don't want to type something that seems like a personal attack although it will probably come across as one.  That's not the intention but I'll likely be banned anyways.  The considerable narcissistic diarrhea of text you type on this site and others is not worth responding too.

And yet you do....

Get a dictionary and ponder that definition. Facts are not narcissistic nor is using them, especially in the defense of others.

Not that @diyer2 needs a second. His counsel was righteous.

Now to the point, you spoke in ignorance of facts regarding Magnuson Moss misleading others. WHY?

My offering correction is a kindness extended to those you mislead. diyer2 offered it to all. You are part of 'all'.

A lot of fluids meet GM specs. To get the Dexos certification the manufacturer has to pay a fee to GM, some won't pay that fee. It's that simple.

Amsoil or Redline are superior fluids but they won't pay the Dexos fee to GM.

Here's a few more fluids that are superior to anything you will buy from a dealer or of the shelf anywhere that is Dexos certified.

Personally I cannot imagine that a "dealer" would drain tranny fluid and have it scientifically analyzed to see of it is GM approved or not.

I would not offer the information that I changed the fluids to anything else if an issue occurred either.

Most sevice departments that I have seen have what appear to be dope addicts or recovering dope addicts/ ex cons working there, the true "service technician: is a rare find anymore so I do EVERYTHING myself.

Look at this point GM knows these transmissions have issues so I doubt that if something happens that they will blame the consumer.

Good luck with whatever way you decide to go.

I guess it depends on your location. I have had excellent service out of the three dealerships I use. Probably the best is Honda with full view glass. You can watch service getting performed. Recently I’ve been using a valvoline quick lube. You can see the service being performed sitting in your vehicle. The only question I had was the oil pan bolt. They even use a TQ wrench on it. Drug addicts? You may need to move. They may moonlight as a cook at your favorite restaurant.

I know of a guy who had a Mercedes with a transmission failure. They found he used a Wix filter instead of OEM and tried to deny the claim. He had a consumer protection attorney write them a letter demanding proof the filter caused the damage. They couldn’t provide any but still continued to deny the claim. He bought the new transmission and then took them to court. Judge immediately asked for proof the filter caused the damage. Once again the opposing attorneys had nothing. He was awarded reimbursement for the transmission and all legal fees. Was a 15 minute case.

People get intimidated by these big corporations. They think they can’t win and just roll over. The carmakers count on most people doing this. But as you said, they carry the burden of proof. And I bet most cases don’t get past a demand letter from a lawyer before they relent.

Not wanting the headache and sticking with OEM is understandable, but certainly not necessary.

Forgot to add that the judge sanctioned both the dealer and the manufacturer for not complying Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in that case. The law really isn’t unclear despite what the internet leads people to believe.

Interesting topic.  Yesterday I had my 10 speed in a 2022 z71 silverado fail. No reverse and only 1st gear. Limped to a dealership. Their diagnostic showed code 700, plus the recall, which I never received.  The fun part, only 15 000 miles and I drove from Winnipeg to Tucson. Luckily it failed in Tucson. So now the dealership is saying at least 3 weeks to complete the tranny swap. What a mess.

The same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago, Dealership just called and they need to do a complete overhaul of the tranny. 11,700km (7270 miles for my American friends) They said they found metal shards in the tranny, clogged up the valve body and torque converter...... What a disappointment!

Welcome to the forum. That is terrible news. Only 7200 miles? Was the dealer able to diagnose what caused the failure?
