So is it good or not? Come on grumpy, give it to us with a little less Albert Einstein and a little more Joe Dirt. Ha

@Jettech1 had made comment on the Mobil Jet Oil cleaning them out so hard it was a filter chase. I offered the link as an explanation.

"is IT good", meaning are Esters good? Tell me what you're fishing for, and I'll give it a whirl.

I’ve pretty much used Mobil 1 synthetic for many years so hoping it’s been a good choice. I never go over 5k miles though on my oil just because that’s typically 6-12mo depending on the vehicle.

Do you know what Mobil 1 means or was supposed to mean anyway?

No, what?

The main idea was that a single (1) multi-grade Motor Oil can be used in all vehicles and in all climatic conditions. In 1974 they released a 5W20 based on a PAO base oil. The first PAO. It flopped. Not that PAO is a bad base but nothing then was designed to work on a *W20 oil. They just overplayed their hand. If this would have been released as a 5W30 this story could have been much different.

In 1980 they rereleased it in 5W30 through 15W50 to stop abnormal oil consumption. (What? There's a standard for NOMRAL)  They also added POE NPG polyol ester to improve add pack solubility. Perhaps their best formulas. PAO/POE is the backbone for many exceptional oils today. This is the stuff we knew, and all LOVED TO DEATH.  For about 4 years.

In 1984 they add back Group II "mineral oil" to further improve additive solubility. Part of the additive "carrier oil" technically not lying? :crackup:LIAR. But still a pretty good oil at this point.

1999 Tri Synthetic is introduced. AN's Alkylated Naphthalenes was the third leg. AN is not really new, is it?  This is also the year Mobil loses its lawsuit with Castrol on the definition of Synthetic. Moves away from POA for Group III. A move to cheaper base oils they can still call Synthetic. Public sees an ever intense add campaign and a rise in price in a diminishing product. 😏

I haven't a clue what the blend is today. Not even from an MSDS. They call it protection of "intellectual property". IMHO, I call it something more like legalized theft by deceit. It's almost commodity priced at Wally World. No better or no worse than the dozen other shelf oils.

They get Oh so close, then the bean counters and greed steal their Thunder.

Most recent VOA's I can find have Mobil 1 at the low end of the TBN spec. Without some labs and a bit of trial, 3K OCI's sounds like a winner. It may be good longer; I just haven't proved it out to myself. And have no interest in doing so for others.

You’re Bob aren’t you! THE Bob from bob is the oil guy. Or did you teach him everything he knows? Fess up.

Neither. I'm just old and paid attention to everything since I was old enough to stand in dads garage handing him tools and holding the light. I was and am a sponge. Learning keeps the heart beating. Then blessed with a lifetime of working in the field which granted me abnormal access to information and exposure to some of the processes developed. I also have a few semesters in marketing. So, I know what a professional lie/liar looks like. :P Makes it easier to read a "paper" and whiff out the stink from the meat. All good lies are in part true if they are to be believed.

About the only exposure I have to BITOG is the UOA/VOA library and connected threads I rabbit hole sometimes. I don't really know who he is.

I've almost 195,000 miles on my '16.

When I change the oil;  I usually do it warm and then let it sit dripping from the Fumoto Valve and the filter bung for an hour or 3.

Then close the Fumoto valve, install filter after lubing the gasket, and add 8qts. of oil.  Start truck, let idle for a bit, check for leaks and shut down.  Wait a few hours, or overnight..............check oil level on dipstick.

On my truck;  adding exactly 8qts. of oil puts me overfull, according to the dipstick.  This was true even prior to the Fumoto valve, as I thought the valves threads may protrude into the oil pan a bit higher causing not all the oil to drain out.

All that typed;  my typical oil/filter change interval is between 3500-5000 miles or prior to each work road trip I make every 5 weeks or so...............that's a 2500 mile round trip.  So in essence, I change my oil monthly.  In that time the oil level on my dipstick will go from slightly overfull to the oil level showing right in the top of the full range on the dipstick.

I also have a slight oil leak.............from the timing cover oil seal I think................if'n I were using/losing more oil faster, I'd check into that more....................but since I change oil so often, it's not worth it.  Rarely a drip on the garage floor;  but the oil under the truck is noticeable.

Say what?  A 2016 gas 6.0 takes 6 quarts of oil.

@Pryme He's totally lying....I put my lie detector cap on and it went into full on red mode. 🤣  I haven't seen it that red since Bush Sr. said no new taxes!!!  LOL!!!  Oh and Obama said, if you like your Dr. you can keep him!!  LMAO!!

2016 5.3 gas takes 8qts. you dipstick.

And on my truck;  as I described above, 8qts. puts it at overfull according to the dipstick........................

English as a 2nd language for you??

Hang on there big guy.  Please slow your roll.  This community respects each other and the only time we call each other names or are putting them down is when we are joking.  I honestly don't know the oil capacity of your 5.3L, I was under the impression it was 6 quarts as well.  Perhaps I'm wrong of which I've been wrong many times.  It's all good...

So you need to post in the correct forum.

This forum is for 2020-2024 Silverado HD & Sierra HD. The OP is asking about oil consumption for the gas motor which is a 6.6 liter in these trucks. Have a nice day.
