Too cheap for electric ones but ready to admit im going to need something lol. I generally don't like how they look so that being the case do you guys have any input on some that are tucked away? something semi hidden? Probably have to be rocker mounted but thats not the end of the world.

The more "hidden" a set of steps are, the less useful they're likely to be for helping get into and out of the truck itself. Also, you may want something that protrudes a touch more simply because you're in the rust belt. My 2015 had steps on it from day one (the wide chrome ones) and the rockers and such were pretty much perfect after 100k of New England driving (road salt and sand in the winter, sand and gravel the rest of the year on the secondary roads).

When I test drove an HD truck before ordering one, I knew I needed running boards to get in and out. My previous 1500's did not need running boards. I liked the look of the high clearance running boards but did not think they were a good fit for getting in and out and read that kicking the truck with boots on getting in would be a problem.

 

I went with the the GM 6" black running boards and they work out well for myself and my GF for getting in and out.

I didn’t want them at all but everyone else in my family needed them so that’s that. I’m cheap so I went with best best deal on Amazon with the best reviews and the individual step style which I prefer. These have held up well now through two winters. 
 

in other news, Wisconsin is about to get hit by a blizzard, it’s not in the news but I just did a full spring cleaning of my truck so I know it’s coming haha

The stock AT4 boards are pretty tucked away and looked like a good option. I put Bulletproof Bumper running boards on, they are a local company with a terrible website and bad ass products but I am not sure if you can find them in the US.

I have the same Rino RB20's that you linked in your opening post.

 

No regrets at all. I wanted something that was tucked in close to the body and didn't effect ground clearance, and low profile.

thats exactly what im after. ill gladly give up a little convenience for something that doesnt make the truck look low. good to hear youre happy with them, thats likely what ill get. thanks man

I have some Go Rhino running boards, up a little higher and tucked away.  Nice and solid.

That’s what came on my truck and they work really well as steps, while not hanging excessively low or out. There’s an all black version of those, too. The chrome ones are probably going to be easier to find and less expensive as take-offs because of the current broad preference for all black styling. In ten or even twenty years the chrome ones will still look like new.

I have the all black version of these steps on my truck and can attest (also) to working well as a step and being of a good overall size and position.

 

The chrome ones will not, however, "still look like new" in any areas of the rust belt. I had the 6" square chrome version on my 2015 and the driver's side step was showing signs of corrosion eating through from the underside after only half a dozen reasonably mild New England winters. Don't get me wrong - I don't expect the all-black ones to fair any better, and actually expect that they'll be worse overall. The reality is that they are made to bare minimum standards and simply won't hold up over time if you're driving anywhere that has to treat the roadways in the winter.

We’ll see how the black ones fair in Vermont winters. I only need them to last long enough until I trade the truck.

Good point. I’m in the Pacific Northwest where we don’t have much salting of the roads.

Did you go with the the bed liner coat or the black powder coat? And did you get the B20 or B30?

      seat base height *lowering* (base 40/20/40 seat, 2026 1500 WT std cab)

      Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose

      I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose

      The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.

      So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?

      Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
