I was going to start a new thread about things that make me wonder. But being my topic closely fits this thread I’ll just comment here. While at church. A place I go because I promised my wife I would about 30 years ago. I was working 7 days a week so I promised my wife when I retired I would join her every Sunday. I said but I’m not going to be sucked into all the extra curricular activities. Didn’t work I’m involved in most things. I’m a loner by preference. My wife isn’t. Her day is filled with helping others. I stay home. I only help her when necessary. Boy that sounds bad. But when you get older you say screw it I’m doing what I want. Well except going to church. Well I figured I can give the big man something. I do still learn things. Or just remember things. So now I’ll get to what I really am astonished about. Last year while doing parking lot trick or treat at church. Yup one of those extra things at church. I noticed one of the ladies back window taped up. Waiting on parts when I asked. I noticed again at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Finally my wife asked her about it. The dealer said it was 1300$ to fix. Did I mention it was the back window? Actually it’s both, so times two. I said damn, tell her to tell her husband to glue it. The dealer taped it temporarily. So passing her in the hallway after church l said glue it. Then she says hey Stan. Oh no. I’m thinking. Can you do it. I’ll be honest. What’s the matter with you husband? I was thinking. I turned around and smiled, sure I said. Most people probably would feel warm and fuzzy. Me I’m thinking how stupid can they be? So after church the following week in about 20 minutes. I hit it with two kinds of glue and little wedges at the bottom. The whole time her husband is saying what kind of genius I am. Then I wonder. How do people get by? Couldn’t be more simple. Probably gets their coffee at Starbucks and bottled water at the stop and go. Then here it comes. Can we take you to lunch? Ahhhh! No thank I said NASCAR is about to start.

Same here Stan, I help alot of people neighbors, friends etc and they always say mostly neighbors want to give me money lunch or dinner I always tell them no and say I don't expect nothing in return and I don’t. If someone needs a hand you give them a hand.

There may be snow on the mountain but there's still fire below, the fires just harder to start or a slow burn. 🙂

Stan I must share something with you. You are skilled and can fix things. Many folk's, men or no cannot.

When I was young I went to my local church on my own. I chose to because I read that Teddy Roosevelt did it for spiritual strength in addition to  physical exercise. I’m talking age 5 to 18.  The men at my church in the  60’s-70s were WWII generation and probably felt the way you did. Those men were my fathers. They taught me to fix things, self reliance, showed me a stoic but kind stable love.
I no longer believe in god that way but I know men like you made a BIG difference in my

life. You may be used more for good than your frustration senses! Be encouraged. My future father in law was one of them and he taught me a lot about auto mechanics.

Men in my family were kinda of nasty and mean. They worked physically hard. Every day long hours. They provided and if you wanted to learn you follow and watch. Handing tools to learn was how you learned. You never got a spanking because once was enough. The biggest laugh I got was watching a parent go 1,2,3 to their kid. Seeing my father’s head turn in our direction was enough. We had a ton respect. We all agreed to work for him for lousy pay and long hours. His affection for me was hey you little SOB get my coffee. He finally accepted me as peer when my talent for operating any heavy equipment was apparent. I’m forever grateful. I can’t think of any regrets. I finally quit raging on my grandkids so they visit grandma’s. They really piss me off. It’s probably normal. My wife is a saint. We live in parallel worlds most of the time. I can’t be that way. We both are happy that’s what matters

I get it. My dad left us on a 210 acre farm. I became THE MAN.

My point is you might be positively influencing a young man more than you realize.

My '15 Sierra has parked in my driveway most nights for the past ten years.  My next-door neighbor told me yesterday that her visiting 40ish old son would love to buy my truck.  I was surprised at first because my truck is stock and quite common.  I then realized that he has familiarity of this vehicle since it was new.  It truly would be an excellent buy for him.  I've also always wanted an older, gently used and well cared for pickup.  Sometimes we need reminding to appreciate what we have!

Tread lightly. I own my favorite year model run of GMs. I put about one million miles looking at a similar dash owning several from 2001 through 2006 models. I have no reason to own my avalanche except if it’s gone, it will be the last. My favorite was a 2006 avalanche. Finding the Ridgeline for a minute thinking of selling my avalanche. A sinking feeling filled my body. I don’t have a collector car anymore except my wife’s. I gave my avalanche collector car status in my mind. I treat it that way. Peace of mind returns.

Yes, my current truck is turning in to, "An older, gently used and well cared for pickup."   I'd prefer to have one of my 60's - 80's four speed manual 1/2 tons in equally good condition but those days are gone.

Yesterday, I received a new recliner c/w lift feature.  I had ordered it online and it was dropped off outside my house in a huge box.  I managed to get it in the house, unpacked and eventually assembled.  It was a huge effort and I was proud of my accomplishment  when I first sat in my new chair.  The joy didn't last when I realized this chair felt nothing like the one I tried in a showroom a month ago.   Subsequent research found that the wrong chair was sent.  This chair is available in three size categories and this particular one was smaller than I ordered.  It was most upsetting but I had to laugh.  Someone made a mistake and somehow this will be resolved.  Actions I won't be doing are trying to get this disassembled, putting it back in the box or taking it outside!  My paperwork verifies that the mistake wasn't mine.  It would also be an unrealistic expectation for me to have caught the error earlier.  Today, I suspect I will be having discussions with customer service and hopefully a mutually beneficial resolution will be found!

My last hot rod pick up was 5 years ago. I switched to pickups when rear drive GM cars got hard to find reasonably priced. It was a wild one. Noisy and fast. The ground shook when you fired it up. The avalanche replaced it. The first truck ever without tuned exhaust. If you had any enthusiasts blood in your body you had to modify. My last stick truck was a 99 ford f-150 sport. It had a 4.6 with a tire frying 220 horsepower. (Not!) It got a super charger. I woke up one morning and was done with the noise. It did help the off the shelf vehicles for the most part are pretty sporty.

The company that sent me the wrong chair was nice to talk to and I have time to make a decision.  They put a rush on sending out the correct size of chair.   They asked me to pack up the wrong one and they will arrange for pickup.  They also said if I want to keep the the first chair instead of packing it up, they will sell it to me at their cost.   I wouldn't mind having the two chairs as they are good looking and the smaller one would be a perfect fit for Mrs. Donstar.  My wife is fine with two recliners in our living room but her comfort is found on the sofa. A recliner isn't a piece of furniture she'd choose for herself.  She appreciates the good deal but she'd rather keep the money in the bank!  I am dreading packing up the recliner.  It was a very efficient pack from the factory and there is a very slim chance that I will be able to replicate the level of Tetris skill required.  Ironically, the only way I get compensated for their mistake is if I buy their mistake.  They don't lose anything and I spend hours on disassembly, packing, unpacking and assembly!   Customer service expressed their appreciation of my understanding in regards to their error but I think I need to see if they can't sweeten the deal!

I would stop payment if I could. Use how ever many boxes it took to pack it up. How them send return postage. Then reorder.
