I’m having a scope to go look at my prostate today and just want y’all to know I’m thinking of you lol

I hope all is well.  I assume a biopsy will accompany the scope.  We are fortunate that technology will provide early detection and circumvent more serious problems.  The procedure is minimal discomfort.   Prostate checks are the butt 😉 of jokes however your fellow sufferer appreciates the trepidation you are experiencing as you are at this stage of diagnostics.

Still have a very low PSA ( so far ) but a very large prostate they wanted a look. They discovered a swollen bladder but neither had visuals of cancer so they didn't take a sample.   Thanks for the support, fellowship and brotherhood of old dudes!!! ....LOL

Typically/stereotypically the "fellowship and brotherhood of old dudes" is an underutilized resource.  Old dudes face challenges we suffer with in silence.  My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer years before his three sons found out.  My brothers autopsy revealed information that shouldn't have been a surprise.  He was also living with prostate cancer but it wasn't the cause of his death.   Women typically are the opposite.  "Girl talk" will cover topics that most men would never share with anyone but a medical or legal professional.  Sometimes, we have even been known to withhold information from our Doctor!   Networking with friends on health matters can be a great way to reduce anxiety for you and your male friend.  Trying to find comfort on Google with a medical concern usually ends up leaving you more anxious!  Anything associated to parts hidden by underwear tend to be the most concerning but the hardest to discuss.  However, once you start the conversation, you will be surprised by how relatable your issues are to others!

I believe in medicine. I wouldn’t be here without it. But remember it’s a practice. You have to do research. Every medication has a reaction. Every thing I feel is a reaction to my blood pressure medication. If I didn’t research side effects I’d be at the doctor weekly. My wife was Human Resources director at a hospital. Her friend was in medical records. There’s always a chance with any intrusive medicine. I always choose alternatives. Go by family history even when choosing a colonoscopy. It isn’t as safe as they say. If your family history is clear you may want to try an alternative. It’s up to the individual. Life is a crapshoot.

You should do your due diligence when taking care of health needs.  Procedures like a colonoscopy may result in a negative reaction and you should be informed of the potential risks. I've had a couple of scares over the past year resulting in extensive colon and prostate screening.   The latter did have one of the known negative side effects but currently all is well.   The chances of long term survival from colon and prostate cancers are greatly increased with early detection by these intrusive methods.  I have witnessed first hand the results of colon and prostate cancers that weren't detected early.  If your research leads you to declining such procedures, research the consequences of not having these tests.  The potential benefit far, far exceed the risks of negative consequences in frequency and severity.

I’ve had experience with good and bad doctors. I’ve also had a peek behind the curtain. My brother in law probably had his life saved by getting a colonoscopy early. He only did it early because his wife’s family has a history of problems to lead the way so his wife would get done. My wife had a bad surgeon resulting in 5 additional surgeries to fix the problem. Ten years of discomfort. Still needing routine visits to physical therapy. We almost lost a daughter due to a drunk on call doctor. Couldn’t be bothered to deal with my daughter over a weekend. My wife’s persistence made the difference. That doctor lost his license. The other retired and moved away. They’re human, make mistakes. Due diligence can change your life. Most of my family’s early demise was due to smoking. Every one smoked in the last generation. The rest of natural causes. Non stomach related. The genetic family history is what you pay attention to.

I had my annual vision screening last week and ordered two new pairs of glasses.  The second pair are prescription sunglasses.  I will use them primarily for riding my Harley Freewheeler on sunny days.  The technician asked me if I wanted the sunglass lenses polarized.  I have always said yes to this question thinking that for a little more money you get better sunglasses!  I asked her why I wouldn't want to have this option and discovered there are pros and cons to polarized and that i may have a better experience without!  Who knew!

I didn’t know I could glasses yearly on my insurance. My vision doesn’t change much. I only found out when I did something stupid. My anti scratch covering was coming off. So I got cleanser that doesn’t scratch glass to clean it off. My wife came walking in the kitchen and asked me what I was doing. I explained and she started laughing at me. WHAT? I asked figuring I messed up. Those lenses are plastic. Oops. Luckily I had my old glasses. So off I went to get new glasses. They told me I get them for free. Yearly no less. Turns out my vision was a little worse.

My prescription has remained the same for a few years but I also like to have the health of my eyes checked.  A lot can change over a year.  I went to a 2 for 1 place to purchase my new glasses and chose to upgrade my prescription sunglasses for the second pair.  I decided to go with non-polarized.  I have chosen polarized sunglasses for decades because I thought this was an upgrade.  There are some downsides to polarization and these outweigh the advantages for me at this time in my life. I am curious to hear from others what they chose and why.  My big issue was not being able to read the digital displays in my truck and on my trike when wearing polarized lenses.

The last pair I paid for I got at Sam’s. Regular and sunglasses. Best ever for not slipping down my nose. My next pair after the mess up by me slid down my nose. So when it came time for the next free pair I was going to get lens in the old pair. Instead of new sunglasses. They talked me out of it. So I tried a new pair. Same problem. The sunglasses don’t though they were part of the original set. As far as ad ons. Anti scratch and glare.

Choose the frames with adjustable nose pads.  The pads can be adapted to the shape of your nose and  pads can be replaced with anti-slip silicon for no charge.  A proper fitting pair of glasses will feel comfortable  and not slip or fall off.  A properly trained technician will leave you with proper fitting glasses.

    • I've been eyeing an upgrade to my tonneau cover for a bit now.  Intrigued by the BAK MX4 EZ-Lift with the torsion spring and went for the upgrade.  Thoughts and musings during unpacking, install and a few days of usage.   Once my order went into Realtruck, it took about 4 days to ship.  Unfortunately, FedEx Ground destroyed the box and contents and it was unusable upon receipt.  To Realtruck's credit, one email with pictures and an RMA was sent to me to send the first one back, and another unit was shipped out.  It arrived 3 days later, unscathed.   I opened the box and it looked like every other BAK MX4.   Biggest differences are the rails and retaining clamps, and of course the spring attached to the cover itself.     NOTE - if you are upgrading from a MX4 to the EZ-Lift, you will have to replace the rails.  The EZ-Lift rails have a notch cut in them to allow the new style retaining clamps to fit properly.  The new retaining clamps also have 2 knobs/carriage bolts and there are two tracks underneath the front panel. The strap clips are mildly different (more like the Undercover Flex clamps) in that the screws go in from the underside.  Personally I prefer these over the BAK clamps that use the nutserts that are a nuisance to install.  The remainder of the parts in the box (drain tubes, rail clamps, and bumper pads) are standard issue BAK.     I did not replace my front bed seal at the time because it seemed to be in decent shape.   BAK recommends shims on the GM trucks unless you place the clamps on the flanges about 1/3 of the way in from both the front and rear of the bed.  I shimmed the front and the middle, and initially placed the clamps equidistant.  This also turned out to be a mistake, because when I set the cover in place, the new style retaining clamps wouldn't clear the front clamp.   New style clamp inserted in the track:     And the issue which occurred because the front rail clamp was too far forward:     Once I removed the shim from the front of the bed, and slid the clamp back to the front flange, everything cleared fine.     The cover set on the rails without issue and I installed the strap clamps.  After I completed my adjustments, I pulled the pin to activate the torsion spring.  Mistake #3 on my part.  PULL THE PIN AS THE VERY VERY VERY LAST STEP!  The reason is, once you pull the pin, the torsion spring is activated.  If you have to loosen the front clamps and adjust the cover, the front panel will - by virtue of the spring, refuse to lay down.  The only way to get it to lay down so you can reinstall and tighten the clamps is to fully open the panel against the back of the cab, which will then allow the front panel of the cover to lay down and be tightened.  Not a big deal unless you haven't installed the foam pads yet (typically the last step) because minus the foam pads, you will need to place something between the frame of the cover and the back window so it doesn't get scratched.  The next time I install one I will install the foam pads before I pull the pin and activate the spring.   After using it for a few days:   The spring assist is great.  You literally can open it with one hand.  My shoulders aren't getting any younger and this was part of my motivation to swap out. The second panel latches and unlatches itself as you open and close the cover.  Neat in concept, however it took me a minute to get used to closing the cover and not hearing the "latching" sound that would tell me it was locked in place. The paddle handles are a huge upgrade and I wouldn't be surprised to see them become the standard across the Realtruck line.  They effectively eliminate the concern that a thief could coat hanger the cover open and get to the contents in the bed. I'm not sure why the very front panel on my cover has a different finish from the other 3 panels.  I have a request into Realtruck to find out if mine was not manufactured properly or if it was by design.   All in all I'm pleased.  Same level of protection, looks good, keeps stuff mostly dry (they all leak around the tailgate) and easy to install.
