I have a new 2024 GMC HD with the 6.6L gas engine - am getting a "pinging" noise upon acceleration which is noticeable with the window down, especially when driving past a building or roadside trees.    My local dealer said this noise is normal - likely the fuel injector pump.   I have never had a GM truck that made this noise...was wondering if this is truly a normal noise for gas HD trucks or should I push the dealer more on this?   I am a little reluctant to go back to them unless there is a service bulletin or verified known user issue.

Other than the noise which is not overly loud, the truck runs and pulls great.  Anyone have experience with the same thing?  Fuel changes to 91 octane did not do much (maybe a little).

6.2 and 6.6 gas make multiple known and normal noises.

Read here - V8 Engine Sounds – TechLink

Go to the dealer and have them pull up the TSB in there, 22-NA-218.  In that TSB are embedded audio clips that they can play for you to hear the sounds that are considered normal for this engine and compare them.

Over 22,000 miles on mine now, a 2024 6.6 gasser silverado, still puuurrrrs, no ping, no knock, just smooth sounding. It just towed 1,600 miles south, a simple 9,500lbs 5ver and smooth. All on 87 octane, some normal non ethanol but mostly stuck with ethanol blended fuel.

I like the windows down as much as i can, so i get a good feel for how it sounds.

It sounds and runs the same with the 2 tanks of 91 i ran through it for the heck of it a wile ago, as 87.

My friends 2024 3500 6.6 gasser GMC also no ping or strange noise, just smooth sounding.

The 6.2 and 6.6 are not the same motor.

We've had a few penske rental box trucks for our fleet when one of our work vehicles goes down and they have all been 6.6 gas engines lately. To me all of them have had that tinging/pinging sound under load sometimes. But those trucks have zero sound deadening and have rubber floors with a dog house covering the engine.

Hi there - wondering if you ever got this figured out?  I have had the same exact thing on my 22 sierra 6.6 gas.  Makes me crazy.  Thank you.

If only there was some easy way to read the responses to the original question.

I was told this was normal and not to worry about it.   Have heard since then this is a common issue given the direct injection.  My truck continues to make the sound regardless of what octane I use...just stopped listening for it now.  Otherwise the truck has been great.

Turned 23k miles on my 2024 AT4HD today. No unusual sounds, etc. I get oil/filter changes at the dealer. I check the oil level frequently. I get 87 octane E10 from Mobil stations. Every 6 months or so I put four 5 gallon Jerry cans of stabilized gas I keep for my generator in my truck including the gas from the generator. Never have any issues. Going back and forth to my camp every week during the Fall and as a daily driver helps burn up some fuel.
