Hey everyone I've got a 2010 Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L L9H and 100k miles and it's got a pretty bad rod knock. I decided to do a oil change to check for copper shavings and to no surprise the oil as well as in the filter was filled with copper shavings. I'm gonna assume it's from a piston bearing destroying itself. At this point am I better off rebuilding the motor or swapping in a motor with similar miles like another 6.2 or a 6.0?

I'm hoping to spend no more than 3.5k but I wouldn't be surprised if it costs more than that

You could fix it for under a grand if the crank is not damaged. If you pulled the engine and opened it up, I'd remove all the pistons and rods and check over the crank. Send it to a machine shop to see what they say. If the crank can be cleaned up and ready to go again all you'd need is a full bearing kit and new gaskets to make it run again. But I'd also flush the engine out and put in a new oil pump as well.

A used engine around me is in the $1,000-2,000 range depending on miles.

Doing it yourself just requires a lot of time to clean things up and make it good again. Your labor is free and it's just parts you are buying. Aside from a possible machine shop needing to clean up the crank.
