I ordered a 2025 3500 AT4 the second week of November and got the "order received" email from GM on 11/27.  The last week of December, my dealer told me it had been produced and gave me a VIN.  GM's chatbot hasn't updated beyond "moving toward the production process," so it's definitely not accurate.

Yesterday, I transferred to a live agent from the chatbot--the agent confirmed it's been produced but had no other updates.  She said they no longer release event codes to customers because it causes confusion.  My dealer simply says they'll know more once it's shipped.  I'm excited to get it--a couple of weeks with no updates feels like a long time

What's the experience here wrt time between production and shipping?  I'm sure GMC wants to get these shipped and invoiced asap after production.  I'm sure there are reasons for the delay between production and shipping, but it's very opaque even to the dealer.

Last year I ordered a 2024 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ.  When I asked about how much longer it was going to take to get to the dealer I had all sorts of answers from my dealer and GM. I chatted with GM also. They were no help. After 6 months I gave up and found one at another dealer and bought it. But that was then and may be different now.

Good luck.

I have a friend who's truck is sitting in the yard in Flint and has been for 4 weeks just to make a 20 mile trip down I75. His dealer has lied to him repeatedly from the very start. Between the shipping backlogs and the dishonest dealers you can't get a straight answer.

I ordered my 2022 AT4 2500 and it was 8 months till it arrived.

Dealers have no control over the teamsters and they will deliver when they deliver.

Once the vehicle is released by GM,  the shipper is in control.  They have 1000's of vehicles to ship every day all over the world and are going to move vehicles that is most advantageous to their operation. First in does not always mean first out.  They need to plan loads, build load and schedule drivers, trains etc.   There is a nation wide shortage of truck drivers so all logistics companies are in dire need.  Friend is a driver for a big nationwide chain store and they are paying existing drivers finder fee's to bring in more drivers. With gov't reg's etc, drivers are limited to how many miles and hours they can be behind the wheel.

My 2024 was ordered mid April '24 (with allocation), scheduled TPW was july 20 and it arrived at the dealer the week of Aug 12 and the dealer installed options arrived the week of Aug '26.

I am familiar with the shipping process. The main point was that his dealer was giving him incorrect information throughout the process including the fact that they told him it was in process when in fact it was only an accepted order with no allocation. It seems like a common issue with many orders.

Z45 is right on with his statement, first done does not mean first out.  I ordered a 2023 3500 HD, it was produced and then just sat.   Then the 2024 ordering opened up so I ordered the 24 and it arrived before the 23.  No real explanation on why.

The 23 may have been a repair hold. Even though it was built it may have not passed validation

Today I should be finalizing an order for a 2025 3500 Denali.  I was baffled that there are very few white Denali's with the power steps available.  Plenty of Ultimate Denali trucks, but I don't want to pay for the interior upgrades.

In 2022 when I bought my current truck I had a Chevy on order.  This was during all the craziness of trying to get an HD truck.  I kept asking the dealer for updates and they just kept telling me don't worry it will get there.  I ended up finding a 2500 Denali that I purchased.  One last time I asked the dealer about the order and they just said it will come.  In the end, the dealer was right and the truck I ordered did come in about the time they said.  I just wish they would have been better at communicating the status.  Regardless, I am happy I went with the GMC.

I got an update today from GM stating the truck has been produced and is "ready to ship."  That's 2.5 weeks after receiving the VIN (which I believe is released when the truck is built--in any event, when my dealer gave me the VIN, they told me it'd been built) and about 2 months after submitting my order.

Never trust what the salesman tell you is the truth.  They often have no idea whats going on, don't really care about an order besides are often not allowed to access that info.  They work for the sales manager and everyday he gives them their walking orders, sell inventory.

The VIN is typically created once GM puts the order into the production queue and given a build date.  I had the VIN on my 2024 2 weeks before it was built.

I agree with you re: never trust the salesman--but with some exceptions.  In my case, the sales guy is a friend of mine and has no problem telling me he doesn't know or doesn't have the info.  I don't bug him for constant updates, but he sends them occasionally including screen shots of his computer showing status, etc.

For those interested in my experience wrt timing, the truck is now listed as "bayed: ready (4B)"  ETA to dealer is "pending dispatch."  Since I'm in California, I'm hoping it'll catch a ride soon as there has to be a lot of vehicles shipped to my area.

FWIW, on GMC chat, I went from "order accepted" to "ready to ship" overnight with no status updates in between.

Thanks--and it could very well be that my dealer gave me incorrect info when they said the truck had been produced and gave me a VIN.  (That email came from the person doing the actual ordering and not my sales guy)   Your scenario makes more sense.
