64BAwagon Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 Rumor has it that the gas vs diesel build ratio is running 60% gas currently. In the past it has roughly been the opposite. I am waiting for timelines on the 26 model year to decide about ordering a new one.

The mechanical refresh is slated for the HD in the 2027 (or later, no one knows for sure) If I ordered a new one it will be a 26 since I have no interest in the changes on the 27's My post relates to the change in gas vs diesel builds which have flipped presumably in anticipation of the L6P and the L8S gasser 1
Chuck FB Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 I had ordered my 3500 gas on Oct 10th and I am only speculating that the dealer had allocation as I never specifically asked that question, however I did ask if it was possible to get it before year end and he claimed with how fast they were being built that it could. In hindsight that was more than likely salesman smoke up my butt to get me to commit to ordering vs chance my checking elsewhere. Since I wanted a higher trim gas truck and he did a search of sorts ( not sure how far his search was ) and came up with nothing that met my criteria and I expected that anyway as looking online at dealers in western Canada or random large dealers in the USA to just see what type of inventory floated around, I would say 90 to 95% of HD trucks were Duramax's so it was what it was. I wasn't given instantaneous up to date information from the dealer on all event codes, it may have been around 3 weeks/ early Nov when they had a TPW of the second week in January and I attempted the online/email chat thing with GM and I found that pretty useless, just didn't want to be bugging my salesman. As far as I know it was then built on that week in Jan and well prior I had asked the salesman if there were any holds on my build as per the time line from accepting the build and TPW to the actual build taking place being fairly stretched out and he said there was nothing showing up but did add that the workers take a Christmas break and that shortens up the Dec build ability. From beginning of TPW week to the day it landed here in northern Alberta was about one months time. I had been assuming it would get built in Oshawa as its a short box ( a claim had been made by a truck oriented content youtuber that the long box version does NOT get produced in Oshawa Ontario ) but as it turned out it was built in Flint so however the logistics worth with the rail system to get it shipped across and dropped in Edmonton Alberta at the rail yard to make the final trek up here. So with that holiday issue and having to ship across borders and the distance, that very well would have eaten into some of the time, so 4 months from ordering to being dropped at the dealer in my scenario. And for all I know GM could have a theme of building a whack of gas trucks for a while or diesels vs jumping back and forth throughout the day or weeks with both engines on the same assembly line, someone might have that answer as I sure don't.

Is that something I would need to sign up for? I ordered a '25 3500 long box Denali Ultimate on 2/10 and the dealer told me tentative production week was 3/3/25. thanks, Dealer just e-mailed that my truck was built and gave me a VIN. Not bad for order-to-build time of 36 days. Now I'll see how long it takes to arrive to ND from Flint. 1

I will take possession this Friday. In 2020, I waited just over 6 months for my 2021 AT4 and in 2017 it took over 3 months to get a Denali. A little over 2 months isn't too bad...... 1

So far we are approaching 2 weeks of it just sitting. Mind you some of the shipping lots are actually farther from the plant than my dealer is. Then you have the added shipping costs... Up to the 90s, the GMC dealer in Oshawa was a couple of miles north of the Truck Plant on the same street. @Chuck FB Were you w/ the salesman when he was searching for a truck? They can include the engine as 1 of the filters. When we were looking last September, the parameters were, Chev, gasser, towing mirrors & LT trim. I'm pretty sure you can add more to narrow things down. I think with those in mind about a dozen & a half trucks fit. I don't know what the results would've been had he switched to a diesel. Some we eliminated due to their colours. I'm not sure what he was using for a radius. There were 2 trucks in Quebec he called about, but they had recently been sold & not taken out of the system. Mine was in Kirkland Lake (461 klicks away) & another w/ UO1 lights in Schreiber (880 klicks) In case we couldn't find a truck & I had to order a 2025, he added & removed filters to see if the results turned up exclusively Oshawa built trucks, but regardless of the filters, it made no difference. At the time I never thought to ask how far he really searched, if he did search Canada wide or for all I know he could have searched just between the dealers that are tied to that dealership as I was not seeing the screen when he did this search. However I tried what seems to be the useless GM website search and that went nowhere either. How many things he plugged into the search is a good question as I don't know what the dealerships search gives them for criteria to narrow down a search. At the time there would have only been so many 2025 models around to choose from and the rest being 2024 which I at least expressed to search for given the discounts at the time on the outgoing model year. From the searching I had looked prior right on various dealer websites in western Canada, I don't know if I even saw a High Country gas truck as diesel is the theme in a big way when it comes to higher end HD trucks. I had a color preference and engine, not sure if the double alternator/double battery was stuck in there and the fifth wheel prep and standard box. He said its a unicorn and I really didn't expect him to say different given the list of what I said to him even though I don't know what of it all he stuck into the search. Had I been after a diesel I expect there would have been more trucks close to my spec choices out there as in theory more of them would have a fifth wheel prep etc. Oh and as I discovered just the other day and I think I had mentioned that elsewhere on this forum, my color choice automatically forced it to be a Flint build but he never said anything about that aspect and commented after that a lot of their trucks come from Flint. But yes, my color put me in the Flint only line even though I had no idea it was that way at the time, as I even assumed it would come from Oshawa, well that was wrong thinking on my part. Even at the time of my finalizing the deal when the truck came in the salesman kept on calling it a duramax in comment to other staff as it just went to show how the high end trims were almost exclusively diesel trucks around this area. I would not doubt that GM even knew how it would confuse customers by creating the "Allison 6.6" hood plates and I could honestly tell someone I have a 6.6 Allison truck and they would probably assume its a diesel.

You should get a tracker put on the truck ( unless the trucks system is on and its being tracked ) and see how many states and dealer locations and startups to unload and reload it does by the time it reaches your dealer.

One of the Quebec trucks I think had the 5th Wheel Prep as the spray in box liner was mentioned (part of it). About the colours, it's amazing that the paint shop that is in use now (built in the early 2000s @ a cost of half a billion dollars for the Car Plant), can't spray all the colours offered... I had seen a 2022 model truck for sale on the used market on kijiji in this area and it was the same color but it was used after all and it had some missing items I was after as it had no fifth wheel prep but did have the spray in liner as it was a High Country, I think it also had the sun roof and I didn't want that. I saw that ad a year before it sold and not sure if he had it for sale even before that. I never jotted the first price down but it was high, made no sense at all to buy a used truck for what he was asking and then his price dropped some on the next ad and finally months later another ad and a much further reduction in price and I assume it got sold. Something didn't quite sit right with me about the guy selling the truck, I talked to him as well over the phone. But sadly that theme of a gas HD truck dropping in value around here is a real thing vs if one was selling a duramax. Yes that seems odd that such a setup is not being used to paint all the colors ( I often use the US spelling ! ), there was some other color as well I think that Oshawa was not using for the trucks. So there is Flint painting all the colors, doesn't make sense to me but must make sense to them with their system.
