I purchased a 2024 gmc sierra 2500HD pro last fall. Truck is fine, except the seats are horribly uncomfortable. I’ve tried cushioning and even went to an upholstery shop. No luck. My next step is buying some used seats on e bay etc. My question is, can I swap out my seats in a pro model for SLE or higher grade or a Chevy seat out of a 2024 2500? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Probably. The features of the higher trim seats (e.g., heated seats, power adjustments) won't work since the wiring going to your seat connectors won't be there, so as long as you are okay with having some non-functional buttons it should be fine.

Alternatively, if you wanted a cleaner install, you could remove the seat covers and cushions, and swap them over to your seat frame. That is a lot more work though than just unbolting the old seats and bolting in the new ones.

OK, thank you. Quick question though the plug in my truck looks like the exact plug in some of the other upgraded versions. Do you think there’s a shot that it might just be a plug-in play or is it something more complicated with the internals in those plugs?

Honestly, the seats in the higher trims aren't that great either. Maybe the Denali Ultimate or ZR2 seats aren't bad, but the seats in my 2024 AT4 are relatively firm and not super comfortable.

The plugs are the same. Your truck wiring harness will just have the wiring to run the seat options you paid for.

Love our 2024 2500HD Denali seats. Everyone is different though.

owned several new HD in all trims and seats are same regardless.....cloth or leather they are very firm

Denali Ultimate is only one I havent tried so have no idea about those

what I did is got a seat cushion from cushion lab and risers for the frame, mainly to tilt the seat back more while slightly raising it in its lowest setting.....my truck is comfortable now, everyone might be a lil different as to whats comfortable

I started out getting basic seat cushions but the cushion lab one stays put better and conforms to your ass a bit better

The GM seats are super firm. To my surprise, they don't give in after several years. It was the first thing we all noticed when I test drove a Super Duty. Those seats are very comfortable. Reminds me of the GMT-800s.

Gonna try getting cushions from seat lab. Appreciate the tip. This is my first GMC truck that I’ve had in a while. I’ve been Ford man for the past 10 years or so. I knew buying base model I would lose out on some comforts, but these seats are the worst I’ve ever sat in. I don’t know why they would skimp that bad on comfort in this truck. Otherwise, I can live with everything else. Thanks again for everyone’s comments!

I used to to some some long rides on some Harley's that I used to own and after about 150 miles it killed me. I heard good reviews about a Pro Pad Touring Polymer Gel Insert so I had them installed. What they do is remove/cut some of the foam out and inserted the pad between the foam and the seat cover. It was a great improvement and could enjoy 400-500 miles rides. You might look into that if you want retain the original seats.

I have a 2024 gmc 2500hd SLE and these Seats are the Worst seats I've ever had in all my trucks.  Cheap Azz GM too worried about how much profit!  My 2000-2005 seats were 10× better.

$60,000+ trucks with Chevette seats!!!

I owned a 2022 Silverado 1500 ZR2 and those seats were firm as hell. It was like sitting on a rock. Drove a Ram 1500 when my truck was in the shop. Seats are way move comfortable in those. I will say though my 2026 Silverado 2500 LTZ TB seats are better than the ZR2 was but the Ram's were still better.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
