Is there a place to get the update cheaper than the $149 on the GM site. I used to get an email with $99 deal but have not seen that in a few years. IMHO it should not be that pricey. $50 is reasonable.

I don’t them on. I use my phone it’s always up to date.

Same here.  I use Waze if I am traveling somewhere unfamiliar and need the turn-by-turn directions.  Waze is crowd updated so you can get info like accidents or road hazards in your direction of travel.  I sometimes use the GM nav if I need a quick view of street layouts in the area I'm in.  I agree, $50 or less would be more appealing to keeping the GM nav updated.

How old is your truck?

Mine is a 2021. I usually update every 2 years. Wife relies on it as she does not like to use her phone. I have a Garmin 890 I use when camper is connected.

I use it too. Every in dash GPS I had has sun glare. Where I can position my phone to eliminate the problem.

I myself think that the cost to upgrade is very unreasonable and should be a courtesy with discounted upgrades. I'm on the road a lot especially in Texas with work and rely on Waze. I keep hearing Google maps is going to update to be more comparable to Waze. Some people I know use Waze but the majority use Google.

I have a 2020 and it seems like the GM Nav site has been "out of stock" for the last 2 years.  Interesting to see that it's available again.

Well I found on Amazon where I can get it for less than $40. Its just a sim card. There is not a 2025 update yet just the 2024. I will try this.

UPDATE: the SD card works and is recognized but it seems to be NOT the latest version of maps. Looking at the version info in the app, it appears to be the same as my 2022 version. Will have to return the update.

FWIW, I bought a NAV-Disc update off of eBay years ago for my Escalade and it worked fine.

If I recall, the Nav system update cards are VIN specific if they are from a legitimate source, so just make sure you're not paying $40 for a copy or knock-off that won't work with your truck. It's GM's way to keep us tethered.

Don't think the Nav-Disc has been used in years, starting with the K2's, it went to thumb drives like mentioned above, now using OTA's.

Its funny, if you go to the official site the picture they show is an SD card not a USB but that could be just old and not updated. Will let you all know. Is there a place I can see the current map update to see if I am going forward or backward?

My 2019 has the SD card for the map.  I just looked at the owner's manual for the GMC 2021 Sierra HD, and it says on page 167 the map database is stored on an SD card.
