My kids and grandkids plus my church kids all did these camps along the river. Non this year. People are of course trying to place blame. Anyone familiar with Texas weather it’s almost impossible to predict. A system forms parks and dumps. I plan trips around weather. It works about 50 percent of the time. Keep these grieving families in our thoughts and prayers.

Truly sad.  There were some news reports years ago after the 1998 flood (if memory serves) that talks about areas out there being uninsurable due to the flood risk and how county officials would work through the state reps in congress to undo that.  I truly hope these lessons are learned as numbers of deaths from these events now exceeds 1k.  No excuse given the history of that river system.

My type 1 diabetic daughter would attend Kerrville Texas Lions camp every year as a child. My heart goes out to the lost and the families.
Guadalupe is a flood zone for sure but that doesn’t stop the pain.

My daughter did as well. Did go as a counselor a few years.

I'm not familiar with the area as I'm all the way up in the upper left USA, but the news about the flooding is truly devastating. I'm holding healing thoughts in my hearts for all involved.

My heart goes out to the families of those that lost loved ones, especially the children. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. Yesterday my wife read a news article about the flash flood and loss of life and as typical there were assholes that had to comment negatively with comments like Texas deserves this. She responded to one particularly vile comment with something like Karma will get you. I have zero tolerance for meanness, physical or verbal. I would have probably responded with "may the rest of your miserable life be spent with a dog collar around your neck being a bitc* or whore, whichever fits, for a MS13 gang". But I would guess that would make me mean, maybe I should hit myself with a stick. I am so very grateful for the concern and love shown on this forum.

There are negative comments from the Left in almost every post on Facebook. Seems they are especially gleeful that a county that went 74% for Republican (from what is said) is getting their ass kicked and people that might have voted for the Right, it's ok that they died. Karma is the common word in their posts

Bunch of POS!

I’ve been wondering. This obviously has been heartbreaking as most disasters are. Then there’s the usual finger pointing. There should have been sirens or something the screamers say. Always eager to find human failure. Usually a political thing. A learning experience for sure. I’m a big believer in personal responsibility for adults. Especially when responsible for kids. I wouldn’t depend on a community warning system unless it alerts my phone. Then it hits me. I have one on my phone. It alerts me to child abduction and weather alerts. I also have alert radio. I realize reception is spotty for phones. But personal devices are available. I don’t want to point blame. The is a unique situation, obviously. There were warnings. I’ve been in situations where the unexpected weather event happened. It just happens.

It’s really simple. Don’t build in flood areas. Guadalupe has been flooding since god made it. Indians knew better. Euro settlers knew better. Then we forgot and ignored. Just physics.

That family has been running that place for decades. That way of thinking no one would live in Florida, Galveston, anywhere 100 miles of the ocean. Or tornado alley. Or on the mountains. You get the point. It can’t happen to you until it does. I have a stand by Generator. I also have trees. If the wind is north of 70 mph. I’m bailing. I’ll turn on the generator and hope for the best. I can buy more meat.
