We live in a world where the average person expects more. People say wages and our needs are farther apart. My first new home had 3 bedrooms and one bedroom. My first car and truck had what would be considered a stripped or work vehicle. In my neighborhood back then there were more homes like that and cars too. Middle managers and second home buyers worked their way up to the fancy houses and cars. Car loans were 3 years. GM had different models of cars for different income levels. The cars were pretty much the same size if you wanted a big vehicle. The nameplate designated the opulence. Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac.  To be fair some of the cost is government mandated. We can’t blame them for giving us what people will pay for. Careful advertising steering people towards more profitable SUVs and trucks. As I learned recently a minivan is a cheaper more efficient form of transportation. Certainly easier to live with. Somebody realized the profit margin wasn’t as big and gave it a soccer mom label. So it lost its coolness. They’re making it the masses are buying it. You hit your hand with a hammer you can’t blame the hammer.

Bro, you still got that truck? I'm not seeing any m rust or flaking, which rusted metal flakes. Everyone thinks the wax "is rusty" but it absorbs its surrounding environment, creating a hard, natural shell that you can literally shoot with a bullet and won't flake off. It'll last 50 years like that as long as the barrier isn't compromised by getting in a wreck or meets a chemical that disolves wax. My 09's frame is even duller looking than that, and is holding up better than my rockers or 3rd set of painted shocks.

Those are your ONLY options at GMC, Chevrolet and Buick - well, depends on what you define as SUV or CUV. 

 

The Traverse is essentially a minivan wearing an SUV costume, lower roofline, higher floor, upright grille and flat hood. Looks like a Tahoe performs like an Impala.

Got to have those sliding doors. One of my favorite things about a minivan. The Kia does a good job of making a minivan look like an SUV. I may do a Toyota next. I want the awd option.

Also, Sienna ftw as well.  The in-laws got a 2024-2025 recently when their 2019 sienna was totaled due to a deer back in June.  They've been getting 38-40mpg on the 65mph highway they live on.

LOL! Are you joking?? That wax SUCKS! 100% gimmick made to "look" good. 

 

After just TWO winters I had severe surface rusting in patches over 90% of the frame. Only reason it looks great in the pics is because I SATURATED the frame every single fall with used motor oil for 14 of the 16 years I owned it. Otherwise it would've been sent to the crusher 8 years earlier with the speed it was rusting prior! 

 

I sold that POS 3 years ago. Was a gigantic headache the second it rolled off the showroom floor. Brakes pulsated on the TEST DRIVE. Door trim fell off the 1st week! Interior squeaked and rattled, and the drivetrain clunked after 2k miles. 4x4 switch failed shortly after. Front end - ball joints, struts, hub bearings - all failed between 38k-50k. Engine started burning oil at 50k. Rear and and transmission failed before 100k. Nothing but problems, and frustration with the piss-poor engineering designed to make you give up. Well, it worked! Nothing on that truck was easy to remove ... except the wheels. They haven't figured out how to screw that up yet. Give 'em time ...

 

I won't make that mistake again. EVER.

Sure, but they do have some affordable options like the Trax, Trailblazer, Envista, and Encore. Some of these have a cheaper base price than the Civic, though the fuel economy isn’t as high. The main problem is that people WANT the highest trim with all the goodies and finance for like 7 years. That’s how ppl “afford” the more expensive vehicles.

About the only GM that compares well with its competitors through the small to midsize vehicles is the Trax. I would like nothing better to just drive GMs. My wife in a Cadillac me in a Chevy minivan and Colorado. Part of my day is comprised of reading and watching comparisons of automobile. I could buy a car today. I’m back to research the next.

GM Brags About Not Discounting Your Next Truck

 

Lmao, yeah we will see about that when it's November of 2027 and all dealer lots are packed full of trucks that the Dealers have been paying interest on for the last 10 months! They have averaged over 18% off msrp the last few years so I'm not sure what idiotic info they are pulling from that makes them think they will be able to move metal with no discounting needed.

IIRC Edmunds did a comparison on Youtube of all the small CUV's and the Trax and Trailblazer were on top, so I guess they're desirable.
