Headlight Question

Recommended Posts

Recently I had the passenger side low-beam headlight go out on my '01 Tahoe. Since I had bought it used, I figured it had just the standard headlamps in it so I replaced it with a standard bulb. Well now my driver's side is much brighter and whiter than the passenger side.

Both the old bulb and the new bulb had the same numbers on the back however there were some differences. The old bulb had a blue ring/seal, the glass seemed to have a blue coloring, and it had a grey tip. The new bulb has a yellow ring/seal, clear glass, and a clear tip.

My question is, what was the old bulb? Was it a long life, x-tra vision, xenon, silverstar? It looks kinda goofy right now with one bright, white headlight and one dingy yellow one. I would like to replace my new bulb with the same one that is on the driver's side. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

B.J.

The person that had it before you put some sort of aftermarket bulb in there, but if it is a quality bulb, like a silverstar, it would say it. Your best bet is to go back to the store and buy another bulb just like the one you put in so they will match!

Well the problem now is that I don't like the new dingy, yellow bulb. So I guess I am wanting to replace both my headlamps with some new, clear bright bulbs.

BUT, I don't like it when the headlights look blue. What would be a replacement that would be brighter and whiter but not blue?

Thanks,

If they were Silverstar bulbs originally they should have "9006ST" written on the back. If they weren't Silverstars, I would reccommend swapping to them, they are much whiter without a blue tint.

On a side note when the old truck was traded in I forgot to pull the Silverstars out  Now I wish I had :D

If you are looking for a bright white light, go with the silver stars, i got them and they look way cool  at night compared to the yellow things moving around the road around me.

When you install them, make sure you dont touch them with oily fingers, (wear gloves) that will help with the burnout problem I have found.

good luck :D

Another vote for Silverstars.

Here is my low beam Silverstars (left) compared to my stock highs on my 94.

Silverstars are very good. I also suggest looking into PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulbs. The bulbs have a slight blue tint, but shine whiter than Silverstars...and they run on stock wattage too! I'm running the PIAA bulbs right now until I go HID this summer. :D

Well last night I pulled out the driver's side bulb to look at it again. Then I went to Wal-Mart and discovered that it is a Sylvania Cool Blue light bulb. I debated over replacing the one I just bought with another Cool Blue but decided not to based on not knowing much about it. Plus, I have my fog lamps hooked up to come on at the same time as my headlights. So, it occured to me that my headlights are white and my foglamps are yellow. That probably looks dumb.

Do they make foglamp replacement bulbs that are white? Either cool blues or silverstars?

Man, I already have about every other car I meet at night blinking their lights at me to get me to dim mine when they are already dim! And I have the stock headlights! It's a pain in the AZZ to have to keep my hand on the dimmer lever all the time! :D

The Silver Star replacement bulb for the fog is #893, high is 9005st, low is 9006st
