6.2 Engine Performance

How do you 6.2 owners feel about the performance of your vehicles? Are you happy with the power and is the fuel economy like you expected?

Didnt buy a truck for fuel economy, kind of an oxymoron there isnt it?

Not really, fuel economy always matters to me. I buy a truck I plan to drive it. If I didn't have all the power I need with my 5.3 I'd probably find a diesel. I couldn't swallow what these 6.2s are getting.

Actually, they do not get much worse mileage than your AFMless 5.3 powerplant, because you have a 4 speed transmission and 6.2 engines come with a 6 speed.

On 87 octane? Pretty sure the 6.2 ratings are w/ 91 octane. FWIW, the 6-spd only added up to ~4% fuel economy (according to GM). The EPA rating changed by 1 mpg on the hwy, and zero city.

Edit: Oh lookie... I just became an "elite enthusiast". Not sure, but I think that's a "bad" thing. Too much time on here...

I get in the high 11's with mine around town, and about 15ish on the freeway. I drive the crap out of it.

I got in the mid 18's on a trip from Las Vegas to Phoenix with the cruise set at about 75 one time...but I've never seen numbers that high on the DIC since then.

Um

I get the same milage running E85 in my 6.2 than I did with my 2000 5.3 (about 12 mpg)

I get slightly worse milage (1-1.5 mpg) than my 2wd 5.3 Tahoe.

Those numbers amaze me. I consistently average over 16 (87 octane) in the 08, other than towing/hauling. That's w/ a 4wd and the stock A/T tires. Every long trip (1 hr+) hwy has been 19.5 to 20+. The devil's in the details I guess.

The comparison is in a daily commute. About 60% city stop and go and 40% highway. I can get over 12 mpg if I am driving all highway and not in stop and go traffic.

2000: Ext Cab Z71 3.73 4 speed 5.3 ran 285's and 255's

2010: Crewcab Z71 3.42 6 speed 6.2 (I also haul about 2-300 lbs of equipment in my toolbox) stock tires

I take a frequent drive up I65 to visit relatives and comparing the two trucks (running 75 mph for most of the trip) I get about 14-15mpg in both trucks. If I switch to Premium (6.2 recommended) I then see better milage as compared to my old 5.3 truck (16-17).

Cant complain I am actually pretty happy as the milage has not suffered even with the larger engine.

This truck has it all. Looks great, sounds AWSOME,decent fuel economy (I has been getting 17-18mpg on my daily commute) and this truck is a blast to drive.Best truck I have ever owned.

The last time I took a hwy trip was about two weeks ago for about an hour and a half with 93 octane and was getting 19+mpg running about 65-70. I have not reset the dic and it is showing 15.5 now driving back and forward to work which is about 5 miles. Then going picking up my daughter from day care which is about 3 miles out of my way going home. I make about 5 stops going to work and about 8 coming home. So far it seems like I'm get lucky. I had the truck for about a little over a month now and as far as I know, its not tuned.

I am getting 13.5 city. 6.2L AWD 3.42

I have not yet run a full tank on the highway, but when I reset the DIC on the highway, I get 18-19 when cruise is set, but I like to calculate it myself

Total Miles since last Fill Up

# Gallons on the pump at next fill up

I have a Volant Intake going to be getting a BlackBear tune shortly and I am still on the fence about the exhaust. I think I am going to start by pulling the resonator.
