Unbeliveable Chev Venture

Hello everyone. Today was the day our incredible 2003 Chevrolet Venture Minivan rolled over 300,000kms (186,411 miles). that may not seem that great but my family unfortunately has not done any maintenance to the vehicle over the past 8 years. So it has gone 300,000km on all origional fluids and parts. the only things that have beent done to the van are the front brakes, new wiper motor, new tires and regular oil changes. That means it has the origional plugs, wires, Dexcool coolant, transmission fluid has only been filled never changed, belts, hoses etc. It has been run out of oil and transmission fluid. I cant belive it is still going and never has a problem starting. We are gust trying to see how much farther she will go

My aunt had one of these she drove it to the ground. They are great. The only problem was that the 3.4 was prone to that intake manifold leak. All in all a good Minivan.

Yeah that tends to be the reason many of them arent on the road anymore. Fortunately we have not had to do ours yet. Is it true that the dexcool coolant causes these gasket failures to happen? I hear they eat away the gasket due to its acidity.

Naah. It's just a crappy design is all. The 3.1L had the same problem.

It was a bad gasket material / design. Dexcool didn't do it.

Oh okay thats good to know. I was worried that it would cause a problem in our other vehicles with dexcool.

Most corrosion problems blamed on Dexcool were actually caused by Dexcool being mixed with some other product. It doesn't like that.

haha my parents got a '97 venture. I think that was the first year they made it. It's got just over 200,000 miles on it now. Only problem is air conditioning problems for last the couple years. Had a mechanic screw us for $800 bucks saying that he re-built the AC and it didn't work no time after that.
