Weight Reduction?

Looking to reduce the weight of my 5300 lbs Crew Cab for mpg differences. I know the differences will be barely noticeable, but every little bit counts with the gas prices rising. I have taken off the spare tire and the tools necessary to replace a flat, but still looking for more reduction. I have heard of people removing the hitch, how hard is it to take off and put back on? Where else can I make weight reductions? Taking off the tailgate is a little to extreme body change for my taste.

I'm 6'1 and 190 lbs - so a diet is out of the question. lol

I don't notice any difference in mpg whether its just me or 4 other people with me. Factor that as at least 500 lbs, and you have to consider stripping it down to a rolling gas tank to really increase mpg by decreasing weight in my opinion. As mentioned, a lighter right foot, or a smaller vehicle. 5300 lbs and v8 don't go too well with mpg.

Tailgate (oh wait that will actually hurt gas milage), doors, rear bumper, side mirrors may reduce some drag

How bout removing the bed?

Sorry felt like being a smart ^#%# tonight

Just put the octane boost to it, if nothing else you will have more octane

I think it would be impossible to shave a significant amount of weight out of one of these

Running a higher octane gas will not increase performance or MPG, unless your truck is custom tuned for a higher octane.

Remove the engine, tranny, and gas tank. Cut a hole in the floorboard and make like Fred Flintstone. This will work and you'll have highly developed calves.

Seriously on a truck this large you're not going to see much improvement by removing weight. As posted before, alter your driving style, drive lightly on the gas and let off the gas approaching a stop or red light. Keep your speed down. It's a 5000+ lbs truck (with or without the spare) It will only do so much. Let's all hope the gas prices level off and hopefully retreat.
