Gonna get a 6.2 & needs help?

A 900 series 6.2 will not be outperformed by any truck on the market. This, despite how old it may be, is a fact. If you like the GMC than get one. A 2012 6.2 Sierra isn't going to lose value like some have suggested. Ever priced a 2005/6/7/8 Vortec Max truck? They're OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive still. I wanted a VMAX truck really bad before I bought mine but could't find one affordably. Plus, an LTZ with the heated/cooled leather, buckets and Nav is a great place to spend your time. It's not like it's a turd inside, it's incredibly nice, well laid out and durable.

 

Don't hesitate to pull the trigger if you can afford it and like it.

This is the position I found myself in when I was shopping. I could not believe the prices of used Silverado's with the 6.2L. A few used 2009's with the LTZ package were priced at 30K these trucks had around 30K in mileage on them. Even with the LTZ package they had in them they did not have all the options mine has and none had the NHT package. New made better sense to me.

I personally would prefer a 4x4 setup for its utility. Although low range isn't needed often, it's nice to have, plus I like it being selectable. And with the type of driving I do, with lots of dirt roads, I think having AWD kick in in a mild spinout would be annoying. And I admit, every now and then I like to shorten the goodyears' life span a bit.

I have an '11 SD and had a '07. The AWD is good and bad. The good is I never have think about it or push a button, and it has saved the truck from a complete total in the snow against a big oak tree. The roads were not bad, just an inch or two of snow, and I was going 35-40mph, when I hit a piece of road on a turn that was solid ice, and I went straight, no traction at all, was about to center punch a big oak, turned the wheel a touch and feathered some gas in, and she slowly turned. I thought the whole side of the truck was a gonner, but still better than a center punch at 35mph, and I hit a big submerged rock at an angle which saved the whole truck. Rim shattered to peices, but no question the AWD saved the day. Would I have had the 2wd in 4x4? Don't know, sometimes I used to, some times I didn't, when I had selectable 4x4 trucks. The bad is I can't swap it or do burnouts.

Back in '07 I didn't have a choice, it was SD only that got the 6.2, and that's all I cared about. Last year, I could have ordered a regular 6.2, but the dealer called, had the '11 on the lot and gave me a ton of money on my '07, no brainer. That's the way it works sometimes.

Either way, the 6.2 truck is great, and I can't wait to see if they make them better, I will be first in line if they do. If they don't I will keep this '11 and get the most powerfull, largest, RWD american sedan I can find, and used is OK too.

So would having the awd truck actually not be as beneficial as an 4wd, as in I know that its basically always four wheel drive but is it not selectable but automatic? I heard from friends that their ss trucks with the awd was alright but they weren't a fan of it, also is the percentage of movement or w/e it is making it to the tire always split or are they constantly changing due to traction conditions? Sorry if I made this confusing, I have a minute knowledge. About the awd system.

In some situations no, it won't be as beneficial. Anywhere you would shift into 4wd LOW you would be out of luck with an AWD. And you are correct, it is not selectable but will always have all 4 wheels getting power all the time. The percentage is split 40% front and 60% rear I believe. The SS guys probably didn't like it because they would have liked to break the rear tires loose at a stab of the throttle.............Hope this helps.

The AWD Denali transfer case is a fixed 60/40 rear/front split all the time. The only advantage and AWD system has over a 4WD system is that you don't have to turn it on and off, that's it. In all other aspects between the two, the 4WD system wins.

 

As for other Denali only options go, I'm pretty sure that now that you can get the heated/cooled leather seats in a Sierra/Silverado, other than the "BLING" factor, you can get the rest of it without buying a Denali.

I really wouldn't see the true benefits from having an awd truck that's not performance oriented, not saying that there are cars out there that aren't true performance machines that use awd for their own reasons, but I think I will stick to selectable 4wd system.

I think some people get 4x4 just to feel macho! Some get it because they actually need it! I do think awd is a safety benefit during bad hwy conditions! I don't see a need in having a 4x4 truck if you don't use it!

I would like 4x4 fo rthe few times i would need it . been stuck a few times . and turned around a few times . To me its just some nice thing to have just incase . and the lower gear range would be nicer sometimes .
