First off you are wrong. The 2013 Impala is going to be a carryover from the 2012 model year and have a brief run until the new design comes out. So the 2013 Impala will be the last one. Anyway I have a 2004 Impala with a column shifter and the seat design with it is stupid. The drivers seat is connected to the middle while the passenger seat is separate. I still like it better because I have more room up front and my leg doesn't have to rest on the center console. For short trips it comes in handy and instead of using 2 cars you only need to use one which saves gas and is better for the environment. The only vehicles that use a column shifter are some pick-up trucks but even trucks are going to floor shifters which makes no sense considering a regular cab is small and people use them for work and they need the room.

Everyone is bashing you on this but I am with you 100%,I miss cars with column shifts and a bench seat,I personally hate console shift,and if I couldent get a truck with a column shift I would be verry dissapointed,another thing gone forever is a manual transmission in a full size truck and people really miss it,give the customer options,let the customer choose if they want a column shift or not,let the customer decide if they want a manual or not.The first automotive manufacturer that decides to go back to these basic fundamentals will have the share of the market in my opinion.

I do respect your opinion of all of this.

 

I do have to add the Law of Diminishing Returns.

 

Vinyl seats used to be the norm for many vehicles. Fancy cloth seats were an option. This swayed back and forth over the years.

Leather was only available in fancy cars.

Leather does have breathing properties that vinyl doesn't.

Now manufacturers can get cheap China leather.

 

Vinyl seats were standard or an option for many years.

Vinyl has disappeared from all automobiles.

Only the work truck offers vinyl seats. And GM used to offer tan and gray. Then just gray. And on the Colorado only the 2WD vinyl was offered. Couldn't get vinyl seats on the 4WD Colorado. Not offered.

The less that vinyl seats are offered the less folks purchase such. The less the item is offered the less people purchase. Then the number crunchers can state that folks just don't want item because the numbers are not there. But the fact that it is not offered in many vehicles means that fewer and fewer folks will purchuse such.

 

One idea that comes to mind is the weight of vinyl seats over cloth seats. Minor. But when every ounce counts toward better fuel economy - then the vinyl seats are dropped.

 

Now to manual transmission. Yes, only about 10% of folks or some such low number purchase manual transmission. But if it is not offered at all then no one will or can get it.

My perspective is that it was a simple accounting position. GM just saving money of design and parts. Cost cutting move on GM's part.

 

Some do like manual transmission. But it is gone. When gone it will probably never come back. One other option lost to the history bin. One more option truck buyers cannot get.

 

Less and less choices or options for the new truck buyer.

Our 1 ton diesels are manual, just because it's preferred for towing and whatnot. Always bench seat too. But since the Allison is so good these days, the only thing we would for sure say no to is the new emissions crap. It all would have to go, most farmers prefer to light their fields/pasture with a match, not with their pickup... :nonod:

My sister just bought a 2012 impala, bench seat, column shift. Almost all Impala rentals are this configuration. My truck has the jump seat as well to be a six seater. It is not attached to either seat, and if the middle passenger is a bit wider in the butt, they get all three seats under them, with three different backrest positions, and no shoulder harness. They do get an air bag on either side though to shoot between in an accident.

The current Impala is going to remain in production until June 2014. Its going to be a fleet car, rental car, government car, and police car only. I will assume it will only be available in the base, called LS, trim and police trim. It will most likely be called an Impala Classic since GM did this with the Malibu several times. I would think it will have a bench seat option since this car has been around since 2006 and I am pretty sure GM has extra bench seats available to use up on this model.

      I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome.

      Next Friday will be my 6 week point from my right knee replacement.  The surgeon says it will be fine if I choose to drive after this checkup.  I know I could drive now but best to do as my surgeon (and my wife) tell me.  Richard compared being 62 to 72.  I remember when I was in my early 60's I was experiencing slow but regular decline in my mobility.  Thanks to good medical support,  i continued to fight the speed and spread of this decline. During my 60's I worked on non-surgical methods and just when I turned 70, my orthopedic surgeon recommended joint replacements.  In a little over a year, I had one shoulder and both knees replaced.  This hasn't been a terribly fun experience, but worth the discomfort as my future mobility health trajectory has reversed.  It is a treat to now be watching my mobility. balance and confidence steadily improve!
