I have been working here for 24 years. Here is a short 45 second movie showing the assembly of our 4500HP engines.

It is hard to realize just how big those engines are until you see them hanging cylinders that are the size of a man, and you look at the size of the crankshaft and pistons.

I believe that. Looks like a cool place to work.

So that's what your 8.1 looks like in your truck...lol

Shaners: Do they ever have public tours? I'd be there in a heartbeat.

06SierraZ71, we occaisionally have open houses when we can bring friends and family. I could get you in then, but I don't know when the next one would be. The video only covers about 15-20% of the facility which is the main assembly area. The plant itself covers approx 450,000 sq ft under roof or around 10 acres.

Sounds awesome, I see a road trip coming....oh yeah. I'd just have to find something in the area for the wife to do...wouldn't be to hard since I grew up in PA.

Sweet! That's perfect for the whole gang, the boy is starting to show an interest in tools and machines. Unfortunately funding won't be until next year. We have a road trip over the upcoming holidays so a second road trip won't be possible quite yet. If you don't mind, please let me know when upcoming events are scheduled.

Wow, that brought back memories. Used to work on them in Dredges, we got the engines out of locomotives for our use....

cool stuff.

Had the opportunity to take a tour of the allison transmission plant today (1000/2000 model)

Manufacturing is cool stuff to watch. I've taken a tour of the Boeing plant were the 767, 777 and 787 are made as well as the Ford Rouge plant where the F150 is made.

I tried to visit that plant. The woman who was selling the tickets wouldn't sell me one. She didn't think I could make it to the bus 100 yards away in the 5 minutes before it left. Even if I was willing to take the "risk" she wouldn't let me. Sadly, I'm not kidding
