I’m curious. Some of the advertisements I see with plug in hybrids are you may never need the gas engine. Is there a timer or mileage when the gas engine comes on to keep it viable?

The engine comes on some while in hybrid mode.  There is not full electric mode. It seems that the engine will come on when it senses a need for more power.  If you are light on the throttle it doesn't come on much at all.  Also in the winter time it runs more in what is called F.O.R.M. (fuel, oil, refresh, mode). This is to basically use some fuel so you don't go several months not using fuel and it goes bad in the tank, which I don't think would happen in just a few months. Also to heat up the oil as opposed to just starting and stopping causing condensation in the oil. Although from my UOA's the fuel dilution in her jeep is really bad. I feel it is from the starting and running and shutting down off and on.  We just came back from a 6hr trip from the NC mountains. She got 20mpg where my diesel wrangler got 27mpg.  I should have taken an oil sample as soon as we got back since it had 6hrs of run time on it. Would have been nice to see what the UOA on it would have been and the fuel dilution condition.

All in all it's a great vehicle for here and around town driving if you are not going farther than 20 miles.  That is the max distance and the battery is below 1%.  It still uses it some for slow driving like if you are in a parking lot even at 1%. The fact that it is small so to speak and the turning radius is awesome, makes for a great around town shopping vehicle to get into and out of parking spots.

Susan has a used 4xe, last fill up using Fuelly it showed 84.3 mpg.  It's a perfect vehicle for around here.  She fills up about once ever 9 weeks.  Runs mostly on electric.

After driving a little over 400 miles eventually getting to my brother in law’s house to help with his move. The Ridgeline parked in the same spot for 3 days. Not a drip anywhere. Not a change in fluid level. I can’t believe he actually put his recommendation on paper. I’m not going to hold this against this dealer. I’ve had 24 years of excellent service. But I will bring the upsell event to the manager.

At almost 5K miles on the Ridgeline an oil change coming soon with the minder still at 60 percent. No evidence of a water pump leak. I will take it to the dealership and have already talked to them about the upsell. See if they made note of it. In order news. My grandson who’s about to drive has started a little mowing service. He’s always admired the Avalanche. I don’t drive it much because no one can seem to get the AC quite right. He’s young and doesn’t care so much about that. That makes 5 now out to family members and the oldest. Bumping the 05 Elantra GT to second oldest. The 17 Camry the newest. The Mazda 3 the most miles. Not bad for a person some claim don’t know what they’re doing with maintenance. The 16 CRV just plugs along. Being a KARNUT I love finding deals and passing them to family members. Some pay me some don’t, doesn’t matter. I like making their life as stress free as possible. I wonder what I’ll find next.

I usually keep my demons to myself. By me making this admission you can see why I’ve had so many cars. I bought the perfect vehicle for me. The Ridgeline. I’ve had it five months 5K miles perfect. I find myself driving the mini van more and more. It doesn’t make any sense. This is the main reason I don’t buy new. The Camry was the same way. Perfect, I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. My granddaughter loves it. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s amazing how that works with me. Now honestly the little secret with odyssey’s they run pretty good. They handle really good. I guess I appreciate the utility and the feel. I guess it’s the driving feel versus aim and shoot. I’ll keep the truck only because I have both. If I had to pick one. Everyone would be shocked. I’m so ashamed. Can’t fight the feeling. My wife always says, I’m glad it’s cars. Me too the child support would be brutal.

Happy wife, happy life. I'd bet under book a mile.

Don't park it in the garage unless you have a killer fire suppression system. Halon anyone!? :)

My wife had a blast yesterday saying I told you so. When she got the Intagra Type R in 2001 my brother and I laughed at her. We of course always messed with muscle cars. It was a special order that took a year to get. She daily hers for two years until a police officer informed her that these were high on the theft list. A pristine hardly driven example went on BAT for over 150K. Hers has 30K miles on it.
