So I gotta know... I am always looking at the dealer inventory, never know when the new truck bug might bite. I would only trade my truck for a 6.2. I have never ever seen one fore sale in M.A. or C.T. So I gotta know, where the heck do all you 6.2 drivers live that they seem so plentiful. Its just weird that there are none around here

Not many of them around here in Middle Tennessee, either. Probably specially ordered, many of them.

When I was looking for one in my area they were hard to come by too. The one I currently own was found by my dealer from another dealership around 200 miles away.

Other than sierra denalis there arent many around here that I see either.

They aren't common at all on dealer lots. When I was looking I still lived in NH and there were maybe 3 or 4 within a couple hundred miles and now that production is probably finished on this generation, that number would probably be even less.

Except for Denalis there are very few 6.2s and even fewer NHTs in the Northwest. Mine is the only NHT 2 wheel drive my dealer has ever sold and I had to sign my life away with a large nonrefundable deposit to get them to order it!

I have seen one (yes one) new NHT 6.2 in LT form on the dealer lot in my area. It's an expensive option on the sticker. The NHT option costs double what the "5.3 value packages" cost (~$3.5k vs ~$1.5k), and the "5.3 package" comes w/ most of the standard things folks want (blue tooth, power drivers seat, locking tailgate, etc.), where you have to add those on the 6.2 models. It works out to ~$3k more to get a similarly equipped 6.2 (msrp). If you look at the mpg numbers on the sticker, it doesn't help either. They show 12/18 vs 15/21 on the 5.3. Most "half ton" buyers are cost concious, and really don't care how fast it is. The last part, is that you won't get the cost difference later when it comes time to trade or sell. A used truck w/ the 6.2 will only be valued a few hundred higher than a 5.3. It really is an "enthusiast" option.

 

Compare this pricing to how Toyota does it. The 5.7 is ~$1k higher than the 4.6, and is available in every model/shape/form of the truck. In fact, it seems to be their "standard" motor.

I live in Central Ohio and had to drive North of Detroit to get mine. I called every dealer east of the Mississppi looking for a Black on Black with every option and the max towing package. They were the only dealer to have one. I am lucky I got a supplier discount so I did not have to negotiate for it

At any given time, there are few 6.2s in Northern California...however, there is usually one here in Chico. Guess Wittmeier just knows how to order trucks right.

Hi joe, I live in Miami Florida and bought my truck in Texas, if thats' any consolation. I searched around here locally but all they had were 5.3's and 4.8's, although not too many of the latter. I searched online and found mine in a dealer in Teaxs called Parkway Chevrolet. While not a flawless buying experience, it was nonetheless what I wanted and am super happy with it. Good luck.

I was just "searhcing" for a 6.2L 4X2 crew here in N.Central TX yesterday. I found only 2 GMC SLE's.

They are really hard to find, I wanted a 6.2 in the AT edition and the dealer had one but was really low balling me on the my trade. I didnt have to have the truck so I walked. Then I found the 5.3 AT I have now. Love the truck, but yes wish I had the 6.2 motor.

Mine was a demo that the service manager was driving. They didn't even know where it was parked when they looked it up in the system. They had to search for it. Love my 6.2L!

I couldn't find one like I wanted within 750 miles of where I live. There were a couple with the 6.2, but they were crew cab LTZ models, which were way out of my price range. A middle of the road (option wise) truck with the 6.2 is very rare.

I live in Jersey and found one in Hartford. 6.2L, Extended Cab, 2011, LTZ with max towing package. Truck only had 3,000 miles on it, so it was certified and gained another 1 year or 12,000 mile warranty. So, 2015 or 48,000 miles now.

 

Glad I went with the 6.2........

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
