So am I the only one who thinks that pickup truck pricing has gone crazy? At these price I will never be able to buy a brand new truck again. 40k+ for a crew cab standard bed 1/2 ton??? Would love to downsize to that from by 2500 duramax, but man the price would have to be in the 30's for me even to nibble.

Nope your not the only one. In addition, quality control has gone down the toilet. I wouldn't buy a new truck if forced at gunpoint.

Bought my '07 right off the showroom floor. 48 miles on her when I took it for a test drive. Brakes were already warped/pulsating. They fixed it, I bought it, and the problem returned 5 times in less than 10k miles. By 2,000 miles, the truck had more squeaks and rattles in the interior than my '94 K1500 with 266,000 miles!! I paid $4,500 for that vs. $30,000 for the Silverado. It now has just shy of 58k miles and I just purchased my FIFTH set of pads and FIFTH set of front rotors (Warranty covered the first 3 sets).

At 38,000 the guy at the inspection station told me the lower ball joints were not going to make it until next year. I was so shocked I had to take his prybar and check for myself - I just couldn't believe it ... but it was true. One of the front struts had also failed by that point too. Upon replacing all of that, I noticed a ring of oil being flung off the driver's side CV axle where it enters the front diff. Still haven't tackled that one yet - probably a bad bushing, as seals just don't fail THAT fast .... well, at least ones NOT made by GM.

How's that saying go? Fool me once, shame on me ..... You had your chance GM - hope saving a few bucks on the '07 was worth it! I'll never buy another new GM product as long as I live.

Only suckers pay sticker price. The reason prices seem so high is that GM trucks have had thousands of dollars in discounts the past few years

Jsdirt, you must have the worst luck cause at 47,000 the dealer says my fronts are barely half worn. As for the other front end issues, is yours lifted?

I am calling BULLSHIT on 5 sets of pads in 58,000 miles!!! My 08 Silverado 1/2 ton I beat the ever living piss out of it and towed way over what the brakes could handle never had a pulsation and still had origianl barely worn pads on it at 60,000 miles when I lease turned it. If you burn through a set of pads every 10,000 miles or less you sir do not know how to drive these trucks are doing 100,000 miles on the OE set everyday

+1. I'm a really, really hard on my brakes and my OEM discs/pads still made it over 35k miles. The aftermarket set I replaced them with lasted 45k miles. (I bought my GMT-900 new in 2007)

PS: My dad's Suburban has 108,000 miles on original discs/pads.

I can say the same about the '08 Ford 250SD I had. Total lemon, will not even think about buying a ford again.

And of course nobody pays sticker, but even if there is a rebate for a truck with "typical" options you may be in the upper 30K range for a 1/2 ton truck. My first GMC I owned I paid under 15K for an new SLE 1500

reg cab in 2001. Is a shorter bed and cab big enough for 2 extra door worth 30K 12 years later??

I love it when people post back and tell ME what happened with MY truck.

All replaced by DEALER under WARRANTY - pads were not even close to being worn - I got 45K out of the last set they installed, and it stopped good, so at least the pads are decent. Could care less - was their call - didn't cost me a dime

. I told them to fix the damn pulsation. I've got 45 year old cars that have NEVER pulsated like that, let alone one right off the lot!!

The chinese rotors on the other hand are another story altogether ...

Only suckers pay sticker price......

Correction Mike - Sticker was $36,325K - calling B/S on that too? Check out the pic below. I shall correct your statement: ONLY SUCKERS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT A BRAND THAT RIPS THEM OFF. Problems like the ones I've had are UNACCEPTABLE in this day and age. Americans have been building automobiles for over 100 years now!! You'd think they'd learn something. As far as I can tell, GM has learned how to build the cheapest, lowest quality product for the highest possible price. They will continue to do so, so long as suckers continue to deal with inferior products without complaining.

The reason I bitch so much about this is I've paid 10x LESS for vehicle that have given me LESS trouble!!! I'll trade the good handling, looks, and ride for BETTER QUALITY any day. I work on my own vehicles - that's why I figured I'd buy new to give me a break! Live and learn.

As for me, no thanks on a '14. Not after this. To each his own.

If you are going through pads and rotors every 10K something is wrong.

Ive got over 110K on my factory pads and rotors in my 05 Yukon with about 40% left. This truck has towed, been driven in the mud, deep water and also several trips to the mountains where they got really hot.

Didn't say I was "going through" brakes that fast - what I said was THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED. Dealer's call there. Why they didn't just turn the rotors/drums, I have no idea. My guess is these items are such poor quality that turning them would make the pulsation even worse.

Jsdirt, I don't doubt what MSRP was, my point was anyone who pays MSRP on any mainstream vehicle has been ripped off.

I'll vouch for Jsdirt, look at my post for my previous 08 Sierra. My breaks both front and rear where shot at 19k, then again at 27/29k, replaced the front rotors at least 3 times, the back drums once (out or round). I didn't abuse her, just stop and go traffic. I think that's what did it in my case, but those very nice looking factor '20's polished didn't help either, those weight a ton. I got rid of that truck, and my 2012 Silverado has 29k on her, and I'm about 30-40 on my front and rear.

Vouch for him all you want, you still bought another GM truck!

OK So I guess this is the rip on GM thread now.

If you hate the truck that bad sell it and move on. That is what I did with my POS F250.

Back on topic please!!

Judging by the lack of response I guess most people on here are OK paying over 40K for a half ton truck.

That is exactly why GM has jumped on the high trim bandwagon, Ford and Ram have proved people love buying expensive trucks.
