2014 Toppers, Caps, Campers

For those with rugs, did you seal the tail gate? Does water get inside? I assume the topper seals to the top of the bed, but I was quite surprized to see daylight through the edges of the tailgate. I really like the SUV idea of how these can be. Yukons are $20000 more then the same thing in a Sierra. I'll take a $2000 topper anyday.

I just got my ARE Z Series canopy installed yesterday. Hopefully I'll find somewhere better than the garage to take pics this weekend. I also have the GMC branded Bedrug installed, but I don't have a pic of it yet.

Found a really good deal on a canopy, the only thing is it's for a 2006 gmc 5.8' box, does anyone know if it'll fit a 2014 with the 5.8' box?

EDIT: in case anyone is wondering, a LEER for the 2006 body style fits, but needs a little bit of trimming to make it fit properly.

By trimming what do you have to trim?

Anyone of pics of an older model topper on the new silverados?

The lip that come down from the bed rail needs to be trimmed down. Once I finish trimming it and put it back on my truck I'll post up a couple pictures

I appreciate it! I'm looking at getting a topper and don't want to pay the $1200 plus price tag for new.

Just had my ARE Z Series cap installed. Not very happy with the over all quality of the cap. It look is great from the outside, however the fit of the cap seems off near the front of the cap near the rear passenger doors. It bows out a little bit.

The cap came with 4 holes drilled into the part that sits on the bed rails. Dealer told me ARE shipped them this way to ensure it doesn't move around. Seriously? This company has been around forever and they haven't come up with another way to ship it?

The frame around the cheap plastic screen on the pop out window is fastened so tightly that the pastic mesh looks like it will be torn apart the minute I touch it. The screen is cheap plastic and bound to rip apart if anything bumps up against it.

The latches that the glass door closes and locks down on is PLASTIC!? And not aluminum as it should be. Dealer told me to be careful and that this is the first part to break with repeated use. Come on ARE....it's 2014 and manufactures in China can make this part for you.

I paid $2400 for this cap and I wish I went with the Leer one. I was told that this was the top of the line, best in class, etc....all bull crap. The cap is not worth the hype.

I'll post pictures of these issues tomorrow once it's bright outside. It's getting dark here and I want to make sure I capture these issues for everyone to see.

Not an ARE issue, but I need to put a weather strip on the tailgate. It's annoying to see daylight on the sides of the tailgate when looking out the rear view mirror.

Also tint on cap windows is about 30%. It's also much darker and view is limited, but not too bad. If you're planning on getting a cap do NOT tint the rear facing glass, you won't be able to see anything if you do.

I'll be getting the side windows tinted down to 5% to match the rest of the truck, but I will not be tinting the back window/door to the cap so that I can still see out of it at night.

See attached picture. I'll post some more tomorrow.

Sorry to hear. $2400 is a lot for a piece of turd.

Love my SnugTops. (3rd one). Best quality but you gotta pay dearly. $3500 for my XV.

My Snugtop dealer called to tell me my Hi-Liner is in. I have some 10" tall bed drawers that have been in 2 other trucks. This time around, I wanted a taller camper. About 4" taller for the Hi-Liner. I know it won't look as sleek as a cab high, but at some point I have to go with the utility ahead of the looks. My main use is for bird hunting trips.

I ordered the side window/doors that open upward, which also have a small slider window to open when they are down. I had the roof tracks installed so I can mount my Foxwing shade.

I haven't seen this thing yet. I'm hoping it doesn't look too bad.

Finally got around to getting it put on today. Not the prettiest topper I've owned, but likely the most utilitarian.
