Having the zone 2 inch level installed this morning at 10:30. Still undecided on perfect tire size. Won't be off road but want a better stance with no rub problems. So many options here on this thread. 2 inch level up front. Stock block in back. Using my stock 20's I need a tire choice that's gonnagive me more rubber without sticking out the sides. Thoughts?

EDIT: zone 2 inch with G2 285/55/20.

 

No such thing as "perfect size". Just what you like...and sometimes even that changes. Pretty quickly sometimes. If you're not going off-road, stick with a mild A/T type tread or even a street tread. You'll be happier in the long run. They are quieter, ride nice, and generally have less rolling resistance.

Shocks like the Kings and Fox may have longer extension than stock. Frankly, I didn't measure my Kings against the OEM Ranchos for full extended free length when they were out of the truck. I installed the Cognito UCAs because I knew that GMT900 trucks needed them with the King shocks and these trucks use the same suspension.

 

Anyone using spacers like the RC kit, might benefit from an aftermarket UCA with the adjusted ball joint angle. I just don't sign up to the idea a dry Teflon socket with a steel ball, exposed to the dirt and elements, is going to last very long. I hear they also develop a squeak.

 

For anyone contemplating an aftermarket UCA, forget about the cheapest one on the market @ $250, the Rough Country UCA. It is designed poorly and interferes with the frame fittings. No amount of grinding on the frame as they recommend, allows for complete factory camber/caster adjustment range.

I completely disagree, I just installed the RCA UCAs and the fit was perfect, no issues with alignment and at a minimum address some of the steep angle and have greaseable/replaceable upper BJs...not bad for the price...and I guess my theory on your issue is these UCAs are specifically spec'd for at least 3.5" of lift. Because you are running less it's not RCX's fault that they didn't spec out for a setup outside their designed use...not being an RCX cheerleader but just want to communicate the facts. Are u still running the rcx 2 inch level?

Well, it really isn't about whether you disagree or not. The fact is it doesn't make them fit my truck.

 

You can see in the picture that the full camber/caster adjustment isn't possible with the RC UCA, even after I ground over 1/2" off my frame, down to the point of the camber/caster indexing cam pin. Regardless of the leveling, the UCA has to travel the same path unimpeded when the suspension compresses. RC just didn't put the small dogleg in the beam like the factory and every other UCA maker selling them for this truck.

 

The facts are that the control arms were represented to me by a RC sales staffer to work with King shocks at 2" level and that full factory range of adjustment is not achievable with the RC UCA.

 

You might want to check your UCAs for rubbing on the frame in this area during full suspension travel.

Yeah I checked my clearance because your pics scared me, to the point I almost didn't order the UCAs, but mine don't have any issues like yours did.

Negative they make a +1,+14, and +20 in the 20x9

I believe it's +14 or 18. Fuel only makes the 20x9 in one offset

never_rested_24-7 is right. They make those sizes and the only difference between the 3 is the amount of backspacing. The lip size is all the same though. About 1.83" or some odd number like that.

Sorry, I shouldn't have jumped down your throat. I just don't like aftermarket parts that don't fit right. One of my pet peeves.

 

In this pic, you can see RC took a direct line to the bushing on that leg of the UCA. The tube cuts across over to the bushing and intersects it at an angle. (the tubes on the outside of the pic)

On the Cognito, they put a dog leg in the beam to that side, which goes in to the bushing at a straight approach. (the leg by the logo)

I just bought my 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain Edition. I was to use my stock 20" wheels and add 33"x12.50R20 toyo rt tires. What lift would you guys recommend and why? Trying to avoid any rubbing or clearance issues and looking to install level kit myself. Thanks

    • Hey guys, sorry for the confusison about this. This wasn't my experainnce, it was copied and pasted fom the net. 
    • The problem with failure rates or increase failures are there’s people who don’t have a problem. What are you doing wrong they say. We had 4 5.7 GM diesel’s in the family when they came out. One was flawless. My uncle who happened to be the most abusive. Early rotary engines were known to use oil. I abused my first car so bad in six months I replaced the clutch, transmission and rear end. It didn’t use oil. My brother in law has a 2013 Tahoe and an older Yukon. The Yukon has 280K miles. The Tahoe around 175K. He runs them to about 300K. If his lifters fail before that time he would consider it a failure. My Hondas, I know people hate it when I mention them. Identical engines. One with cylinder deactivation one doesn’t have it. One shudders when the eco light goes on or off. Cylinder deactivation. But wait! According to the web. It can happen with lock up too. So now people in the know are changing the oil and transmission fluid more often. Then you read it could be a programing issue. So what do you do? There’s lots of money involved. I see three ways to deal with it. One only works if you don’t drive lots of miles. Lease, never get out of warranty. Or only buy older vehicles with a good track record. They all have bad runs. Usually when there’s a change. Even Toyota and Honda. 
    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.
