Hey guys new to the forum, I was interested in redoing my exhaust also. I' had an 06 Sierra, cut at the cats and ran duels all the way to the tips with no mufflers and I liked the sound. Would I be able to do the same thing on my new truck? (2014 silverado 5.3) I called my muffler shop he quoted me 180 to cut it at the cats and run duels back just like my last set up. Would I need to worry about anything??

Hope some one can give me some guidance !!

Thanks

with the 06 you had no AFM (V4 mode) IIRC, so you never got the AFM drone. You are likely to get the drone when in V4 mode without a muffler

Give me the name of that shop, a local muffler place quoted me $250 just to replace the stock one with a magnaflow and nothing else!

No. Some people that took off just the muffler weren't happy, if you take of the whole system I bet it'll drone like crazy.

I'm thinking of doing exactly that. I looked under the truck at the third "cat" Looks more like another resonator to me. there is no 02 sensor on it.

Hey man, I looked at mine and determined the same thing yesterday. I was hoping to wait and see if some one here had more adventure in their blood to give it a try first. I would be super curious to see it it makes any difference in sound. I forget how yours is set up. Mine entire system was cut off forward of the factory muffler and replaced with a 22" Magnaflow, single in, dual out, with custom pipes running straight out the back. If you replace the third cat and get a better sound without drone, I'm in 100%.

I've thought about it, my only worry is that it has a very short collector pipe were the 2 manifolds meet and then go into this contraption. It's at least 5" around and I'm unsure how a muffler shop would do this. I'm no expert by any means, just looks to be difficult. If I do go this route, I'll get her tuned also and shut the V4 mode off.

Yes Mike, I noticed that also. I guess that is one reason I was "chicken" to mess with it. Yes , I'm chomping at the bit to get mine tuned and turn off the v4. It seems no one has the software to tune the TCM yet. I'm cosidering hooking up with Justin at Blackbear and do the Auto Cal. Even he does not have the TCM software yet but can do the ECM now and the TCM when he gets it.

Like you I'm wanting to get mine tuned also, I sent e-mails to several tuners I've worked with b4 and asked the very question on a TCM tune. I Just sent them before I logged in here so I've yet to get a reply. I've never heard of blackbear until i joined this forum, I did notice that they are proud of there product.

Later this afternoon I'm going to call a few speed shops I've use in the past, just to see what HP tuners and EFI Live is capable of on the dyno for our trucks.

Yea Mike, when I was on the Hummer Forum, you weren't sh-- if you didn't have a Blackbear Tune. I drove to Charlotte to PCM for Less and had mine done, the H3, and later the '12 Silverado 5.3. We just don't have anyone around Montgomery who does performance tunes, at least no one I would trust with my new Deanli 6.2. Blackbear's method is you use the Auto Cal device you purchase from them, plug it in to the truck and download the factory settings, then you plug into your computer, download that info, answer a few other questions and email all that to Justin at Blackbear. He then modifys the file, customized per your request, and sends the file back to you, You then upload it to your truck and magic happens. My problem with all that, I am not that good with computers and electronics, so I personally, I am a little intimidated by such an involved method. I do know numerous guys personally, who swear by the Blackbear tune. Me personally, I like to drive into a tuner, give him a couple hours with my truck, and when he gives it back to me, it is everything I imagined and then some. That's the way I did the last two vehicles with PCM for Less at Charlotte. I am definitely going to have mine tuned, just don't know what method I'm gong to use yet.

No Taz, I sure don't. I looked on my invoice and it only says, "22" Magnaflow." It's an oval shaped muffler, single in, dual outlet, 22" long. I'm sure that's all you would need to know to get the same exact muffler. Good luck with your choice.
