Yes and that is a small area of the country. Maybe 20% of sales so the other 80% doesnt matter. Look at it as a cost benefit analysis. Why spend the extra on a full stainless system when 80% or more will fare well with aluminized steel? Cheaper to replace the 10-20% that will POSSIBLY fail Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk Pro

I didn't analyze the stock catback, but if it is aluminzed steel then I'm glad I replaced it w/ the 409 stainless flowmaster system. If I remember I'll take a section of it to work w/ me and tell you what it is. My GTO & G8 both had stainless systems on them from the factory, but I replaced those too lol!

On my GTO I had a custom exhaust done, and a small section of it was aluminized steel (like 2x1.5" straight pipes) - I didn't drive it very often in the winter, and that section began to rot out after 3 years.

409 stainless will oxidize badly, and could rot through eventually, but it should last you the life of the vehicle. That's why I like 304 stainless systems, they last FOREVER and always look good too. Worth the extra money IMO.

Flowmaster typically always used aluminized steel, but the system for this truck is 409 and that's the main reason I bought it, normally I'd go flowmaster but the flowmaster was twice as much money and used the same material.

So how exactly does that flapper valve work? Im curious to know how it gets rid of the drone..

Look at dynomax vt system... They started that design.. It keeps the exhaust resonance for pulsating in the exhaust..

Same lines as a jpipe

almost all modern sportbikes have the flapper as well to comply with noise regulations.

Think Yamaha r6 was the first with that also..

Kinda like the old tractors and the cap to cover the exhaust so rain doesn't go in it lol... But for sound

The valve spring is actually fairly stiff so It will stay almost shut when your in 4cyl mode or just cruising, it only opens up under a heavy foot.

Pretty much. It's def open but not that much.

Have you ever covered your exhaust completely on a single out system.. Puts a good bit of pressure out lol..

I'm excited to hear it truck... IF YOU EVER UPLOAD A VIDEO ;-) LOL

This must cut power a bit i would think, while it opens in 8 cyl mode it needs pressure to force it open, which equates to restricting exhaust flow. I can say SOTP there seems to be more power particularly down low w/ the catback I added, most of my former vehicles (GTO, G8, grand prix) I don't think exhaust did much but w/ this truck it does seem to have helped a bit.

I just got this done today, has a nice deep rumble when your on it but it's pretty mellow while your cruising. Easily worth the $50

Man, I am so close to doing this instead of paying $7-800 dollars on the magnaflow dual exhaust. But I do like the looks of the dual pipes coming out the back. How does magnaflow deal with the V-4 drone though?

SO WHERE IS THE VIDEO. As the saying goes, No picture/Video-It never happened! :nonod:

I had this done over the weekend and it made my truck sound terrible. I don't know if its because I have a crew cab, but it definitely sounds nothing like the video that you posted. Yours has a nice raspy deep tone where mine just sounds like an annoying V6. I also noticed some low end power loss in the higher gears (3rd and up). I'm going back to stock for now. If anybody out there has a factory cat-back system that they have removed from their truck (5.3 c/c short bed) and would like to let it go let me know!
