I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 with navigation. I just updated my maps. I had to order a new disc for $160.00. I'm not sure if the 2014's use a disc or not. I'll find out when I get my new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Check your navigation booklet. I also have a Honda which also requires a new disc every 2 years.

It would be slick if they used the onstar system.

I'll cross my fingers for sd. Those sd files for other cars always pop up online, would be nice not to pay for something that should be free anyways.

All past GM GPS updates have been sold and delivered via disc. I received a mailer recently that the 2013 vehicle updates are for sale. They were saying for sale at $150 now but $200 regular.

Of course nobody would ever do this but... these discs are not copy protected at all. People make copies to protect their investment in case of accidental damage. If a copy ended up in your truck it would work just fine. Of course you should only copy the disc if you own it for your own purposes.

I actually bought a disc on eBay that when arrived was a blatant copy. $45 and it worked just fine. The seller was no responsive to my claims and I never hardback from eBay.

The 2011 is a CD you purchase. When I can't find an address with the nav I use the OnStar ap on my phone and have it sent to my in-dash nav. It works great.

A few new toll roads are opening up around Texas and I'd like my factory Navigation to use them in routing. How do we get the updates?

If its anything like older Nav units, eventually there will be an update disc you can buy from the dealer to update to the latest version, or from this website below:

If you try to look up the current 2014 Nav it says you are using the current version.

But I went back to a 2013 truck and saw the update for the Nav is $199.99.

Older versions ran off a map disk. The new Nav systems do not use a disk. I'm betting we'll be able to update via memory stick or SD card. Though the disk may be a possibility.

Technically the new Nav units could also be upgraded by disc even if they are hard drive based, its still a readable media. The hard drive would just install whatever is on the disc. But using an SD card or USB drive would also be good too.

Only time will tell.

Bad part about that is your updates are always a year behind. So if you live in an ever changing area then you'll always be behind the power curve. They don't just always keep stuff updated and the packages offered are upwards of 100 bucks.

Go to this website. http://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/home/en_US/GMNA/USD If you have a newer vehicle you will order a usb for the vehicle. Older vehicles will get a usb. you can get nav updates for any year and make.
