Thanks loads! I have looked for a straight forward answer like that all over even emailed djm for info and got no reply. Just to be clear i want to do all the work myself i dont have a lift but do have jack stands and such. Is mcgaugheys drop able to be done without lowering the tank i saw that djm says it can be done with theirs but i havent looked into mcgaugheys yet cause they dont show prices for some reason. (Probably my error) im somewhat mechanically inclined. I mean i like to think i know what im doing since i been building a 67 c10 the past 2 years lol.

Any vibration issue with the mcgaugheys drop due to pinion angle? Ive seen alot of people run into that and wasnt sure if it was directly related to certain kits or all drop in general. Im still learning. The c10 i mentioned before is a truck i bought for my dad to teach me on that we could build together but thats come to a halt with his health being what it is lately and the way i work. Anyways sorry for the random off subject ramble.

Also just out of curiosity whats the significance of the adjustable kit? Just so you can play with the settings and fine tune to your personal taste i assume?

That also if you ever want to go lower or raise the truck you have the ability to do so. I got the adjustable kit for my truck late last year and I'm glad I did. I asked for a 4/7 but seemed way to low for a 4/7 so I took the truck to a different shop and had them raise it to 3/6 and had no trouble raising it an inch all around

Big ol 10-4 i think that will be the route i go then. I mean its not that much more and im one of those that has the mindset get what you want and do it right the first time so you dont have to do it again.

You wont know about vibrations until the kit is insatlled.  If you have vibrations then you just adjust the pinion angle with shims.

I dropped my truck in my driveway with jackstands, and without removing the tank. It would be much easier on a lift, but if you're comfortable with a wrench and a grinder, you'll be able to install the kit yourself.

Doing the flip kit does take an extra hand. To get the leaf under the axle.

It was a pita for sure. I removed the passenger side spring, and just dropped the rear of the driver's side spring. After that just a lot of cussing and wiggling to get the axle on top of the spring. I'm not sure which was worse, removing the rear spring hangers, or relocating the axle lol.

How long did it take you to do?

It took me about 2 days, but I wasn't pushing real hard to get done, taking lots of breaks etc. You could probably do it in one long day if you stay on task and don't mess around. Shops that do these regularly and are familiar with what they're doing can easily get it done inside a regular business day.

10-4 i was just curious cause its my only means of transportation so it cant be out of comission long. Thanks for all the information everyone its been a great help. Now just gotta tough out all these 7-12s so i can get to some off time to do it lol

Finally got my drop shackles installed and blocks removed last week, now I’ve got the disease though...I want to go lower [emoji51]

TBN and ZDP levels matter. The one thing not covered was sufficient viscosity. Sad.     And yet we now have since API SN lower amount of them all with the only real change being a slight up tick in base oil selection. Along with lower concentrations of everything that makes oil work and lower and lower viscosity there is still an insistence on longer OCI's.    How low does the peanut butter and jelly level have to get before we say it's just white bread folded?    The new smoke and mirror treatment is the 'additives are INVISIBLE' to UOA testing with a health dose of TRUST ME.    I'm not picking on AMSOIL. This is coming from all of them. Every last one of them that abandon the low wear model in favor of the high mpg/EPA compliance model. 
    • First off use it in the way you’re more comfortable. In working in off road situations most of my life I used 4WD low range very little. In most cases when equipped I used auto 4WD. If I wanted maximum control going up and down very steep terrain  I used low range. Especially if I was driving a diesel. Same with very rutted terrain. In very muddy or snowy conditions I wanted momentum so high range worked well for that. With gravel ramps with limited traction I would try high range first. I would want smooth even increasing speed if I was fighting traction. Low range could give you too much to the wheels breaking traction trying to move. 
    • Having owned 4wd vehicle since the 1970s I find there are varying opinions on how to use 4wd, every owner is an expert in their minds.  IMO, 4LO is the appropriate gear and what I would use,  You have to feather the gas to avoid spinning tires and the lower the gear the better chance.  But like I said you will find those that think their method is best.  I live near a boat launch.  Yesterday there was a new Ford Maverick pulling out a pontoon boat almost 2x its size, they had no problems and they don't have a LO range.   True story. One winter day not long ago I was coming out of small town post office and there was a F150 4wd parked in front and was stuck foot deep snow ruts. I knew the lady so I asked her to put it in 4wd (wondering why in the middle of a 2-day snow storm she wasn't).  Her reply surprised me, "my husband" (the expert) told me not use that because it uses too much gas. She finally got unstuck spinning in 2wd which likely used more gas than not.  
    • Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.
    • The thinking is that starting out in a higher gear makes it easier to avoid applying excessive torque when pressing the gas pedal. In a modern 4wd truck with 4 low and a limited slip or locking rear end, I would use 4 low and try to crawl up the ramp. Sometimes if they are too slippery, you have to back up to let the boat have some bouyancy, and then accelerate briskly to get some momentum to help you pull the through the slippery parts.
