Would like to get some other opinions on this oil, if it will void our warranty.

Happy and safe holidays to all.

Thanks-

No it can't void your warranty, but i hope you're not thinking of putting it in your duramax.

0W-20 is the GM recommended grade, and a Dexos1 synthetic is the recommended type, so you're good to go.

I've run it for 3 years...hard to beat. Walmart sells a 5 Qt bottle for $24.99.

You will be hard pressed to find another 0W-20 that is Dexos1 certified for a lower price than what Walmart sells Mobil 1 for. It's a good oil and meets your warranty requirments.

Question about 8.5 qt capaity of 5.3L: At one time I owned a 12 cyl Jaguar XJS and it took 12 qts of molasses thick oil. Other than that, I haven't owned an 8 cylinder for my daily commuter since the 1970's. I was surprised to read in my manual that the 5.3L took 8.5 qts. Is that amount of oil typical in today's 8 cylinder engines similar to that engine size?

I personally believe that more is better when it comes to oil capacity (heat dissipation), but I was surprised that's all.

No they just increased the oil capacity on this model year with the new engine redesign. The typical amount WAS 6 qts.

Thanks for thanks for everyone's input and time, still on the fence having dealer do the changes or doing them myself.

You should have gotten 2 years free from GM, not sure if anyone mentioned this already.

Unless its the 'free' Dexos1 approved 0W-20 that you dealer has for the changes came with the truck.
