Driver side door clunk?

My 2014 Silverado LTZ sounds funny when I close the door. Instead of a solid sound when it closes like the rest of the doors it sounds like a loose 'clunk' for lack of a better term. Took it to the dealer and they said that all the silverados on the lot sound the same. Go figure I guess. :bs: Anyways if I roll the window down a hair and close the door and it goes away. I am thinking it is something not tightened down all the way or maybe the window needs adjusting? Just seeing if anyone else has had this problem and fixed it before I go tearing into the door panel..

Check your bolts in the door hing, I had this problem with my 2013 Avalanche and discovered one of the nuts on the bolts were loose. Tightened it up and fixed the issue.

Ill try that. Sounds more like it is coming from the back side of the window above the door handle..

Mine does it as well. Haven't had a chance to take it in yet. Definitely doesn't have a solid sound.

Im going to take the door panel apart and see if I can tighten anything up. I have already fixed a rattle in my dash by pulling a trim piece and tightening a couple 7mm bolts that weren't torqued down very well. Need it to warm up first as it is 1 degree here right now in Alaska!

Let us know how it goes. Mine has a clunk sometimes, but not always. Strange that they said all or most driver doors are doing it.

why bother taking it apart... have the dealer do it.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Been to the dealer. Was told it was normal.. And I think I can fix this myself without having to drop my truck for a day or two again.

I have one truck that has a vibration in the door handle area when the drivers door is pushed closed, not a clunk by any means. I can pull back a little on the outside or inside door handle and slam the door closed and it does not make any noise. It makes no noise while driving either. My other truck does not make this vibration type noise. Not really a bother but since this thread came up I thought I would chime in.

Quality is job number 36 at GM. I had to adjust the driver's door on my Impala because it was adjusted wrong at the factory. Also, both my Silverado and Impala front wheels were misaligned from the factory and had to be taken in for alignment when I noticed scrubbing on the front tires. And yes, alignment was out of spec on both. Fortunately I did not have big problems, like vibration.

Jay I just noticed you're in Anchorage too, what dealer did you buy it from? Lithia or AK sales and service?

FYI I was looking at GM service info last night and ran across a PI that sounded like it may apply in this case. While it didn't describe your issue exactly it was more for window issues, it did say to check for loose components in the door. You may be on to something with what you were thinking. If they had a bulletin on it I can imagine a fair amount of trucks are affected which may explain why your dealer thought it was normal. They just probably had not seen this PI. If I remember it was fairly new.

I bought mine from Lithia (Chevy of South Anchorage). I got a really good deal there and have bought my last 3 trucks there. Alaska Sales doesn't like to give deals like Lithia does in my own opinion. However I like Alaska Sales service dept better and think I might start taking my truck there instead..

I'm having this same issue with my passenger door. Any updates? Planning on bringing it to dealer tomorrow.
