GMC compared to Toyota

For the record, worst truck I ever owned was a Toyota Tacoma. I was shocked since they're supposedly so reliable.

What year was it?

While many can and will debate the reliability of Toyota, one thing is definite, you wont lose your ass on a Tacoma if you decide its not the truck for you and sell it or trade it in.

They have 4.30's but a deeper overdrive in 6th than Gm. The transmissions are ratioied completely different. The mileage of the Tundra isn't because of the 430's.... but whining about mileage in a pickup is so trivial anyway.

Half or more of you buy a pickup..... automatically have to level it or lift it and install some big heavy tires...... than whine your mileage is junk.... right. Great logic there bud.

I drive more miles in a year than probably 2 or 3 of you on this boardcombined and do it getting like 13 mpg....... I don't give a damn. I enjoy my vehicles and time on the road and don't sit brooding over fuel economy difference that might net a few hundred dollars..... or even 2 or 3 thousand if you really put it on at the end of the year. I don't have a coffee and a pack of smokes everyday.... my fuel is less than that.

I'm not whining (i know your may not have been insinuating that, or maybe you were, idk) about gas mileage. I bought this truck for the capability it has along with the ergos on the interior. I know that when I level out the front and put bigger tires on it the MPG are going to drop. HOWEVER getting decent gas mileage doesnt hurt!

let me ask you this if you had a choise between two different trucks that had the same amount of power / torque, cabin space, ground clearence, etc but the only differece was one got 12 mpg (which a lot of toyotas do) or a truck that 15 mpgs which truck would you rather have?

I'm not saying that MPG is the most important thing that I look at when buying a truck but if the new GMC's said they got 12-13 MPG city I would have prob looked at other options before making the plunge.

disclaimer these MPG represent's city avg's.

+1 on that. i may not be a big fan of toyotas (although i think it would be cool to have a older tacoma to go off roading in) but their resale value is much better than any american truck by far. a buddy of mine sold his tacoma i think it was like a 01-03 with around 140k on it and he got like 8k for it on trade in at a local ford dealer. i couldnt beleive it. for my 02 silverado ecsb 2wd with 198k i had to fight tooth and nail to get 3500 from the dealer...

Very easy. I would buy the truck I liked.... like I do now. The gas mileage wouldn't even be a consideration.

While i would tend to agree with you, mpgs arent at the top of my list when i bought my truck, it was a consideration. With all things considered and being equal whether you want to agree or not many truck buyers do consider mpgs a deciding factor, if not people wouldn't spend the money on diesels and the ecoboost wouldn't be selling the way it is. Also more truck buyers don't need the torque or the capability of a diesel, they buy for the mpg if they tow.

Mileage has to be a consideration, just like price and how large a one will depend on how many miles you drive. The difference between 12 mpg and 15 mpg if you drive 25,000 miles a year is about $1500 per year. Over a 6 year loan that's $9000. So consider the price tag of the 12 mpg vehicle $9000 higher than it is and ask yourself if you still like the vehicle that much better. If you only drive 10,000 per year, or don't plan to keep it that long, the difference will be less.

I agree it's not the most important issue, but not paying attention to it at all is like ignoring the price of the vehicle when buying it--which nobody does.

Don't get a loan either to buy the truck... Not everyone cares about gas mileage. Lots of people do upon initial purchase. Then join these forums because they bought the economic gutless wonder and it doesn't tow the financed holiday trailer well enough and now want more power... but don't void that warranty either. I find it comical in a way. Or... buy the big bad diesel. Spend an extra 10k plus associated costs and interest on that 7 year financing you know doubt will roll into the next truck 5 years later.. to save 1500 a year... Yep makes great sense.

If you can pay cash for $50K+ vehicles then you have enough money not to care. Most here are not in that position.

Gee, I hope my "gutless wonder" 6.2 tows as well as that Toyota! Oh yeah, it'll tow better and get better mileage--which is the point you seem to be missing. When the Toyota engine is both less powerful and gets worse mileage than the competition at the same time, that is certainly something worthy of criticism. If you have money to burn, good for you, but it does matter to everybody else.

Op didn't buy a 6.2... wasn't even really talking to you. Yeah I guess I have enough not to care... and I am not the only person out there like that. I buy biggest engine, deepest gears and I drive hard. Not condusive to fuel economy which is laughable anyway.

Just drove a 6.2 max trailer 2014.... meh.... its alright. Didn't really do anything spectacular. Better than the previous gen for sure.... as is the rest of the truck. I want to try a 6.2 Ford for a comparison and will right now.

And he didn't mention towing anything so heavy he should have bought a 3/4 ton diesel instead either.

Dude you are the definition of a hardo! (Sorry Boston term) - if you got so much money to burn stop messing around w/ these gassers, get full ton HD king ranch, big horn, Denali whatever, then tune it up for more power. Or better yet Get a freakin F550 and have it done up all custom, drop $100G forget the $50,000

The 6.2 ford pales in comparison compared to the new GMC, the whole truck is much rougher around the edges and doesn't make the same power in the same places as the GMC. I have driven both. And unless you get a black or dark grey raptor you'll look about as grown up as the kid down the street w/ the sti big wing and gold rims.

I will test and buy what interests me and what I want.... Denalis and diesels and all that junk isn't my thing sorry. I don't much care what you like lol...... Just go back to playing with your G8.... oh right... you sold it to get this truck you have... okay. And Raptors.....really.... that's the kid with the wing look. No thanks.

Hey badass you said you wanted the biggest engines w/ deepest gears and drive them like a hardo so by your own admission you should be looking @ the diesels they have more power and deeper gears and will stand up to your abuse.

I can't "play" w/ my G8 (which was more powerful than all the trucks you're talking about btw) cuz I dumped it for the truck but I will play w/ the Vette or a GTO when I get a new toy this spring.

And yes I'll pay cash.

You think if you're rich you shouldn't care about mpg or that rich people don't care about it?? Umm well maybe you should talk to the marketing reps and engineers for Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche, cadillac, BMW, tesla etc that all spend countless hours effort & money making and selling hybrid or electric or high mpg expensive vehicles. It's just dumb to completely ignore it, it's annoying to have to fill up constantly for 1
