I went with a hard cover again. This time I got an ARE LSX with the remote lock and led lights.

It fits well and the paint matches perfect. It Includes under carpeting too. The Hinges are nice as they lift then rotate the lid up and away from the cab front.

The new led light bar on the ARE is super. Guess I didn't need the GM one after all.

I think that the fiberglass hard covers are very nice looking, especially when painted the same color as the truck. But I always wondered what someone does if they have to haul something tall, like this compressor for instance?

I've owned a truck with a hard cover for 14 or so years. I found that I need to haul something too large so infrequently that that I don't mind removing the cover for the occasion. The cover is only held on by a few pins and bolts. With a little help I set it on a couple of buckets in the garage. Edited by DAY11

I worried I'd be away from home and want to spontaneously buy something tall. Then what? My Retrax Pro just came in. Hopefully I'll get it put on before too long.

So I have been reading almost every page of this thread and still can't quite make up my mind on tonneau cover. I unfortunately don't have any places around here that I can view any of these products in person and was hoping I could get a little feedback. BTW 14 Silverado 1500 High Country with 5'8" bed.

Here is what I'm looking for:

-Needs to be water tight

-Needs to easily be able to use entire length of my bed

-Looks are very important

-Cost is least important

I am considering these options and can't figure out the big differences with what I've read on here and other sites.

-BakFlip Revolver X2- Currently Leaning toward this option

-Truxedo Titanium- seems almost identical to Revolver

-G4 Elite- seems like it would be the worst option when folded up but I may be missing something

-ReTrax Pro- honestly can't figure out why it's so much more expensive but was hoping someone could give me an idea

Or if I am missing an option please recommend

Thanks

I've had the BackFlip on my truck since July 2014 and while I love the look, I would not buy another one for the following reasons.

My biggest pet peeve is it is difficult to roll up and down once the outside temperature drops to 30 degrees, the colder it is outside, the more difficult it is to roll up - and down, once it gets below about 10 degrees, forget it, it is impossible to roll up. I have not actually tried to force it to roll up when it's that cold out because I feel sure I will break something. For me, this is a deal breaker.

When it's warm out, it rolls up with one hand smooth and easy though.

Next, while I knew that it is not waterproof, it leaked only very slightly at first, no big deal for me - but almost two years later and it leaks pretty bad. I think the main reason is when the cover is rolled up and secured with the straps, the straps themselves pull the front corners of the cover up and away from the bed, effectively unsealing it from the bed even after it is rolled back down.

Guys I'm looking for some help. Read thru the thread and its a array of every type of cover. Some cheap some expensive some hard some soft but the minute I read one that sounds good another pops up just as good. I'm looking to get a cover but these are the things I'm looking to stay within

1. Reasonably priced.. Probably no more than 400-450

2. Water tight or at least as much as possible

3. Probably soft as I'm assuming cheaper.

4. Somewhat good looking and flowing with the bed

5. Thinking a rolling vs the tri fold for more use of the bed when needed

I was looking at the gator sr2. Looks nice, sits more on the inside of the bed, has rails to hold snow weight on top... Anyone use this and have any thoughts on it. If not the gator what ones do you guys recommend?

Thank in advance

I've had the Access Lorado for a year now and it fits your criteria perfect.. Mine was 405$ Installed... $35 for the install... Access has a Good-Better-Best system for an Increased Capacity and Low Profile cover... The Lorado is a Low Profile and BEST.. The equivalent Truxedo is the Lo Pro QT but was more expensive at the time...

Hope that helps..

But if you ever did need to haul something it can't be spontaneous. You have to know in advance, and arrange for some help. I'm glad that works for some people but that's why I'll probably always have a soft roll-up tonneau. Find something at a garage sale or need to haul something for one of the kids I can be ready in a matter of seconds. and the roll up tonneau's also give full access to the entire bed so large items can go all the way up to the front of the bed where they are safest from tipping or moving during an emergency stop.

Again, I'm not bashing the hard tops, they look much better than the soft roll-up tonneau's but they just take the versatility out of a pick-up truck for me.

Definitely. That's a doable price and by your pic looks really good. How is it with wind flapping or noise, say on the highway? Any leaking?

I agree completely. I like the Retrax Pro because of security when traveling and it will roll up out of my way. Out of sight, out of mind with the addition of a lock will cause most thieves to move on. Many complain because it takes up room in the front of the bed. Well so does a tool box and I've never owned a pickup that didn't have at least one tool box in the bed, so I don't see a problem with that either. The price was the biggest draw back, but if you can afford to buy a $52000 pickup (I got a $10000 rebate!) you can afford a nice a bed cover for it.

That don't match

I'm in the same boat though with the UnderCover "paint to match" it doesn't match. Apparently GM change the Summit/Olympic white yet again for the 2014-16 vehicles and the bed cover places haven't caught up yet.

Don't it?

Actually because of the pearl it goes from plain white to pearl white. It seems to do this in the opposite direction. Truck is light and cover is pearl then cover is white and truck is pearl.

Hard to see exactly with the water but it is like the pearl is laying in the opposite direction.

It does wave (Flutter) a bit but not like a flag would and no noise... I've seen traces of water in the bed after driving in some heavy rain... It worried me at first but I have never had anything wet... It's such a small amount and only when poring...

Anyone notice how large the hole is at each corner of the bed in the front? I'm not sure what the purpose is. It is high enough that it is above the flap on the outside between the cab and bed

This may explain some of the water in the bed...depending where you are seeing it and if you were in motion
