2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

I put a Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite on my 2016 Silverado today. My last truck had a painted fiberglass ARE cover on it so this was my first experience with a folding cover. My first two observations are as follows. First, I wish they put the front latch further forward. It's towards the rear of the front panel so the leading edge of the front panel can be pulled up a little when you pull up on it even when it's latched properly. I tried to adjust the striker bolt to hold it down as much as possible but I wish they put the latch up towards the leading edge to make the front panel more snug. Doesn't feel very secure.

Second, I think they did a poor job sealing it at the two front corners. There's a significant gap on both front corners and I don't think it would have been that difficult to improve the sealing of those corners to reduce the amount of water that can get in. The front, tailgate, and sides look to be sealed pretty well but it just looks like they decided to ignore the gaps at the front corners. When I first looked under it from the rear, I saw two big light holes at the front corners and was surprised how big they were. My side rails are pushed in as far as possible so I can't do anything else in the alignment to reduce the gap. I'm going to take a look at the corners and see what I can do to try and minimize those gaps. I think I can eliminate the vast majority of those gaps and maybe do something to make a little water dam to keep the water from just easily running in those corners right into the bed.

Installation was okay. It took me longer than planned because I had to fiddle with some of the alignments and re-adjust some things after seeing how it finally went together. Shipping was wonderfully fast, all the parts were in the box, and the instructions and Youtube video were decent.

I don't think this cover is nearly as secure as my old ARE cover so I'm concerned what I'll do when we take the truck on family trips and vacations and have stuff in there overnight at a hotel. I'm a little worried about it.

BeauTie, does your truck have spray in bed liner? I too noticed the gap in the front (although mine is minimal) my 2014 had no gap there but also had no spray in liner, my 15 does. And for what it's worth, on my 14 I never had water get in, I have yet to test it on the 15, also, I have had over $25,000 worth of equipment locked in there for a few days several times with no issues, but then again if a thief wants in, he will find a way no matter what you have there.

Hello all.

I have always had soft trifold covers and I am considering a soft roll up.

Haven't seen too many posts about the EXTANG REVOLUTION.

I like the idea of no Velcro.

Does anyone have any comments on these?

Good and bad.

It's hard to say without seeing it, but I know some covers come with an additional strip of weather seal. They have you glue it to the actual bulk head that runs along the front of the bed. so when you close the cover the weather stripping on the cover panel meets the weather strip on the bulkhead running along the back cab window. Not sure if this would help your situation and close the corner gaps though. I'd try calling them. Maybe they have a fix or will send you weather stripping.

Here are a couple of photos of the corner gap I mentioned. The first photo is taken from the outside with an arrow drawn to the area of concern. The second photo is taken from inside the bed looking forward so the daylight that is visible is coming through the gap. My concern is mostly that when driving in the rain that the rain would basically be going right into that hole since the gap faces the forward direction. It's not the end of the world but it just seems to me that it wouldn't be that hard for Fold-a-Cover to close it off better.

My truck has Line-x liner, by the way.

Yeah that's about what mine looks like now with the factory spray in liner, well a little less gap but still has a gap. I wonder if adding a strip of weatherseal to the bulkhead like mentioned above would help?

I was going to go with the tonnopro hard-fold but ended up going with the TruXedo Titanium roll up. It rolls all the way up, exposing the whole bed, and can hold some weight. It's been thru one winter and summer, no leaks and is holding up pretty well. Can't complain. Pricey though.

I've had the Access Lorado Soft Roll-up Cover for a year now... Love it so far but did have a question... The Cover seems to wave like a flag a lot when Driving and even while just parked on a windy day... Is this NORMAL? I have a 2014 Silverado. CC

I believe the cover has some tension dials on each side toward the cab which makes the vinyl tight. Sounds like it needs some adjusting.

Nice. When I needed a cover these we not quite available yet so I went with the Tonno Pro Hard Fold, it just gets old having to remove it when I need access to the whole bed.

Well before I started reading this thread I already a few hard folding covers in mind..... But after reading/skimming this thread, it's obvious I should just go with the Fold A Cover G4 (which was on my list to begin with) I liked the looks of the Bak/Undercover/Gator but it appears to many people are having to many issues with these covers. I guess once I sell the dirt bike I should have enough funds for the G4.

I have the Bakflip and I love it. No it is not 100% waterproof but it is the best looking, lowest profile, and easy to use covers I have seen. The leaks that I have are so small I haven't even tried to do anything about it. I can put luggage in the bed and although a little water gets in when it rains I have a drop in liner so not even the bottoms of bags get wet. And I have gotten more comments on my cover than the truck itself so there's that.
