Possible however, that port will charge my phone with out issue and the usbstick i put in there lights up. I havnt tested the aux jack in there either.

My AUX jack wasn't working, either. I assume it's just a USB device internally connected to the hub.

there was some one here that did some weird cable splicing. and got everything working, I dont remeber if he had a glove usb.  One thought I had was why are we using the front usb pass through. Why cant we use the usb that was under the seat in the first place. Thoughts? How many usb outputs does the hmi have two or three?

Ok, I double checked every connection, everything looks right to my knowledge.

  • Everything in the front of the console works, both USB, both 12Vs, and the 110V (this shows open ground on a circuit tester, I assume that's normal? I didn't check it before the swap.)
  • The 12V inside the console and on the back of the console for the back seat work.
  • LED inside the console works.
  • Wireless charging lid works.
  • 2 USBs inside the console charge devices.
  • 2 USBs inside the console work with Android Auto when my phone is plugged into them.
  • 2 USBs inside the console DO NOT WORK FOR USB MEDIA. This is the only thing not working.

I even checked the 2 wires on the power plug for the front USB hub that is part of pgamboa's harness with a multimeter and confirmed there is 12V across the pins.

I don't know what the problem could be. Obviously there's some communication going on with the inside USB ports because Android Auto works. Could it be a problem with one of the hubs. How hard is it to remove the interior hubs? Maybe try swapping it with the one from the jump seat since I think they're the same part?

Using the full function of the usb depends on your HMI.  The HMI only has two USB connections to give the full functionality and the others would only receive power without other features.  Phil @pgamboa can answer this much better.

works in the stock trucks with out issue. Which generally have glove usb, front, and inside.

also a thought is to come from the floor usb to the front usb, then out of the front usb to the interior usb. Its either a hub problem or a cable problem, again it works stock.

I find it odd that CarPlay works perfectly but not USB Data (Media). I’ll have to retest this on mine and will report the results...

When I return from vacation :)

Ok - thanks for the info. I’ll recheck that too. Thanks!

Update to my list above: AUX doesn't work either.

I'm willing to test anything the more knowledgeable people would like me to.

If you still have your jump seat, can you pop the USB hub out of it and try it?

I know there are hardware differences between 14-15 modules versus 16+ where car play was introduced.

There are also auxiliary input detect signals in the harness so I will check those as well on mine. When I started building the prototype harnesses, I tested 3.5mm aux input and phone as CarPlay. I don’t recall testing a flash drive in in the inside compartment as it worked on the front hub and glove box USB.

You have to pop it out from inside. If you have a strong L-Shape pick tool you might be able to pop it out from the front.

I didn’t have much luck doing it that way, so I removed the rubber part of he cup holder and cup holder itself and took apart as much as I could to gain access to it.

Got it pulled from the jump seat, wasn't hard at all.

FWIW:

These hubs have a connector on them with a bunch of wires that the front console hub doesn't have.
