So I'm an idiot: What exactly is this mod? I've been staring at the pictures trying to figure out what this "rear seat fold down" mod is lol.

It's a useful mod for people who like to mount amps to the back wall. Out of the way, yet can still fold the seat back down to adjust easily.

That's what I'm doing it for, my amps are under the seat now, kinda in the way.

Ok, On the new crew cabs the bottom of the seat will fold up. When this happens the back of the seat moves up but the back will not fold forward. By cutting the 2 tabs, When you fold the bottom up, it releases the tabs and allows the back to fold down allowing access behind the rear seat. I will post some pics to show you.

Seat in normal position

Seat bottom folded up. This is all that is available without the mod.

Both seat an back folding forward.

Seat Back folded all the way down on the seat bottom.

Any idea on how much you cut off?

I folded the bottom up then reached behind the the seat back and marked the tab. It looks to be about 2 and 5/16 inches.

I would mark then cut. Not sure how standard this is. Yours may be set slightly lower or higher.

Agreed, I have years of research and development, along with prototype, there is nothing that shows strength/durability loss. The seat would have to fold up in such a fashion, I don't believe that it could happen with a human in the seat.

I agree. I have years as an accident reconstruction expert. It would take a crash that would probably be unsurvivable before that tab could come loose with the seat down. i.e. buckling of the rear or bottom of the cab.

i didn't even know my seat could fold forward at all
