The biggest advantage that Ford has is Allan Mulally as a leader. He's fearless and pushing them well beyond GMs comfort zone.

 

I wouldn't bad mouth anything they are doing because they will just continue to kick ass n take more marketshare...!

 

Could you explain what GMs comfort zone is? Kick ass and take more market share? Where are you getting this from? I'm not brand loyal at all but this crap your spewing is unreal

Come on man, old tech? There isn't much on the new engines that isn't new. If you consider pushrods a hindrance, you can think that, have fun with your 5 ft timing chain. DOD is pretty common. No I don't like it, trust me the MPG laws aren't the only ones I don't like. If you think putting in a motor from a fiesta is the answer, good for you.

 

If mileage matters to you, hook up your 2.7 ecoboost to a camper. Hook up a GM, 5.3 or 6.2, hell even 4.3 v6 and drive with the same load. I guarandamntee you THE GM PLANTS WILL GET BETTER MPG with the load.

 

If you really wanna have fun, head to the mountains, where I'm SURE the boost will make the 2.7 pull JUST FINE. /sarc

Consider 700 lb wt loss should yield 2-3 mpg

Plus improved aerodynamics yield 1-2 mpg

Plus efficient little 2.7 EB yields 2-3 mpg

That can give current 22 mpg in 3.5 EB a gain of 27-30 mpg and use 28 mpg as avg... It's realistic...!!!

 

Plus when Ford adds the new RWD 10-speed auto that should add another 2-3 mpg... !!!

 

 

All of this with class leading capabilities!!!

 

Your GM... What's ur response, what do u do?

 

But the current EB dosent get 22 MPG... Dealt with a few and they don't get anywhere near 22mpg

Sorry bud, there is nothing "class leading" about MPG from a 2.7 towing. You can speculate all you want man, wait til they come out and you buy one and pull 9000 pounds with it to tell us how great it does.

 

Just make sure you get the "TOWING" frame so you can prove us all wrong, wouldn't wanna get a truck you can't pull with would ya??

GM isn't leading? Last i checked, GM is the first of the BIg 3 to reintroduce a midsize truck...let alone offer a diesel powerplant in the same segment. Where's Ford? That awesome 2.7 in the global Ranger may get 30 mpgs based on your calculations...again where's Ford?

The only reason F-150 is the best selling truck is because they go to pot in a hurry and need replaced, for some reason the fan boys keep buying em. How many 15-25 year old F-series trucks do you see running around vs general motors, GM trucks last so they sell a few less of em. Thats just one of my theories. I've not driven an Eco boost, they we're outta my price range the 3.7 V6 seemed pretty gutless compared to my 4.3.

Also, I don't want to be Fords guinea pig for their new great, always recalled technology. I like my truck tried and true not some whiz bang technology new fangled monkey business from an Airplane engineer, its a truck it should have a steel frame and be able to tow at least 6k lbs.

Here's another key pout to consider - Intellectual Property rights - new tech know-how that Ford is compiling with both EcoBoost and aluminum mfg.

 

It took GM 3-years to deliver the 3.6 TT after Fords 3.5 EB

 

Ford announced 112 new parents with this aluminum mfg plus the patents they already own from aluminum mfg at Jaguar n Land Rover.

 

It will take competition years to reverse engineer around Fords patented technologies and they are bringing more n more tech back in house as a stronger competitive advantage.

 

GMs decision to stay with big old tech V8s is not the future... It's gonna be a Big problem for GM to catch-up as Ford continues to extend their tech lead... And next it will be aluminum Mfgr in all Ford vehicles over time that will give them a big advantage... It's all because Ford CEO Alan Mulally came from Boeing use of aluminum and he's an engineer too...!

 

because GM wants the 3.6 to LAST, and not be sitting in the Dealer Service Department to the point where the Vehicle owner Enacts Lemon Law!

 

EDIT: Were you NOT PAYING ATTENTION to my Original Post, where I explained that Aluminum is A LOT HARDER to Repair, and with the Skill Required to Repair it, it commands a PREMIUM PRICE? (which will be likely reflected in both the MSRP of the Vehicle and the Repair Costs!)

Regardless of whether a motor like the Ecoboost is reliable or not, I feel like GM needs to offer something similar for the people who have an interest in buying a truck with that type of engine.

I don't know if there is much of a market for people who want that engine.. At least where I live. I'm sure it's different elsewhere. It would be a whole different story if it actually got 22 city mpg.. But it gets worse mpg then a 5.3

There is nothing wrong with a 1.6L four banger and three turbos in a F150 or Sierra/Silverado or RAM.

 

But don't try to sell it to me as a truck...

My thought was that "supposedly" Ford sells a good bit of the Ecoboost so I would imagine GM would sell a decent amount of them too. Would I buy one... never, but I bet a good bit of others would. I would buy a diesel or big V8 first. Just gives them more options that's all.

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.

I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
