Is there a measurement (distance/height) where the beams should be projected on a wall? Since I lowered my truck 2 3/4" in the rear my headlights are lighting up road signs and blinding oncoming drivers. I should have marked my wall before I did it but I forgot.

Yeah since I have put the HID's in my LTZ projectors I am getting a few people flashing me, and I know when I put the HID's in my brand new Equinox they seemed to shoot up alot higher, and had the same issue..

1. measure the height of the headlight beam at the bumper

 

2. park your truck on a level surface about 25-30 feet from a wall where the headlights are projected clearly.

 

3. adjust the cutoff beam so that the beam is 2.5" lower than the measurement you took in step 1.

 

4. adjust so each side is the same height.

 

5. done

Hey everyone,

 

Just curious if anyone has a good procedure or details on where the cutoff should be approximately at a specific distance from a wall on level ground. The reason I ask this is because I notice I'm blinding a few drivers after installing my RC level. In hindsight I should of marked the before level and the re-adjusted but I got a little ahead of myself.

 

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

If you have a Sierra leave the headlights alone. Most agree they need to be adjusted higher from the factory anyway. so with the level kit.. you should just about perfect.

 

I have a 2in level... and actually have them raised higher a little bit.

Did you miss the part where he said "The reason I ask this is because I notice I'm blinding a few drivers after installing my RC level"? Kind of a hint when others are flashing you that your lights are too high. Not to mention I am pretty sure that is on the check list for every auto manufacturer (are headlights set at appropriate level? Check), so i bet they are fine from the factory (hasn't ever been mentioned in any tests I have read).

Ha that was kinda funny.

 

As far as the headlights there was another post I found that described a procedure on how to level em out, if I remember correctly:

 

Park ~ 20 feet from a wall on a level surface.

 

Measure the height of the beams from ground at the front bumper (best you can)

 

And finally at the wall the cutoffs should be ~ 3 inches lower than they were at the bumper.

 

 

I did this after I had the RC level installed (I didn't have the foresight to measure beforehand either) and it seemed to be pretty accurate. It was difficult to measure the exact cuttoff at both distances for me so mine were still slightly high after i did what was described above. That should get you close tho

I ended up doing the "hit and miss" option. But I finally got them "semi right" I guess. Since there wasn't any side to side adjustment, the up and down was pretty easy.

are you saying that your headlights did not need to be adjusted side to side or that they did not have the side to side adjuster? If I'm not mistaken, the side to side adjuster should be on the back end of the headlight

I didn't see the side adjusters but I didn't look for them. Didn't need side to side only up and down. I'm not saying they aren't there just that I didn't need them. Let me know where they are if you find them.

Greetings Y'all.

 

Has anyone figured out how to adjust the 2014 GMC Sierra projector headlights side to side (right/left)? I found how to adjust the up/down but despite nearly crawling into the engine compartment I can't find an adjuster of the side to side variety!

The left/right adjustments are indeed on the upper rear corners of the headlight housings and look identical to the up/down adjustments on the top of the headlight (white plastic circle with cross-cuts for Phillips screw driver).

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.

      Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.

      That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
