Work Truck remote starter without keyless entry

I'm wondering if anybody has had a remote starter installed by a dealer in a Silverado work truck that didn't have factory installed keyless entry. If so, any problems, is it possible to do this?

Thanks

I actually just called about this yesterday. Your truck (and mine) do not have the proper RPO code(s) for the factory remote start. However, you can add factory keyless entry for $73 (cost of the fob). I am having this done on Tuesday. Apparently, every truck that doesn't have the convenience package still has the keyless entry receiver installed (RPO code XL7). You simply have to get the factory key fob (3-button fob, all black, Part #13577771) and have it programmed by a dealership. From what I and a couple GM service techs understand, the 'SmartKey' fob for the factory remote start (4-button key fob, black/silver, Part #13577770) uses a different receiver frequency.

Basically:

If you do NOT have factory keyless entry, you can get it by having the proper key fob programmed for your truck;

If you have factory keyless entry, installed during assembly ONLY, you can add factory remote start with the GM kit.

This is not gospel. This is simply the way I and a couple of service techs understand it from looking through their computer system.

If I am wrong, please let me know.

Howd it turn out? Everything work?

Parts delivery is running a day behind due to weather here, so my key fob won't be in until tomorrow. We just got another 5-6" of snow last night. Will post back when it's done.

What do you mean by keyless entry? I have the base model but not work truck.

Keyless entry = remote for locking/unlocking doors. The work truck is the base model. WT < LT < LTZ

I thought work truck was the one with the black bumpers lol, I do have a remote for unlocking with two buttons. Does this count as keyless? I'm still kind of confused. By keyless you mean pressing the unlock button on the remote? Not putting the key on the door handle to unlock correct?

You have the three button remote for the truck? It has a lock, unlock and panic, black in color? Then yes, you have "keyless" entry. Take a look in your top(?) glovebox. Should be a silver label with a bunch of 3 digit codes on it. See if you have code AQQ on the label. Or, if you have the ability to PM (private message) shoot me the last 8 or your whole VIN number.

Update with bad news.. My remote finally came in at the dealer today.. Basically, the hardware is there but the software isn't..

Doing a VIN search will show a dealership that your truck is capable of using the factory keyless entry fob. It isn't...

The truck has the proper receiver for the fob, but it does not have the ECU programming installed. The fobs are programmed via a scan tool, and the ECU in trucks without the factory-equipped keyless entry do not have the option for programming the fob.

The service tech that tried to program mine said that, at least as of now, there is no way for them to add the programming to the ECU.

Mine is at the dealership right now getting the remote start done. Hopefully mine works. Did you get charged?

So basically your saying if yours is not keyless entry then the remote start will not work unless there is a software update on the ecu.
