I paid $373 including taxes. The dealer wanted $461 but thanks to #newdude he told me to check Davis Chevrolet website and under accessories remote start they have it for 345 + tax and my dealer price matched it.

So basically your saying if yours is not keyless entry then the remote start will not work unless there is a software update on the ecu. Wicked Galaxy Note 3

Correct. At this time, the factory keyless entry can't be added to trucks that didn't originally include it. And without the factory keyless entry, the remote start can't be added.

Not a huge deal, as an aftermarket keyless entry kit is less than $50. I was just hoping avoid the installation.

But with an aftermarket keyless entry, wouldn't you have to go with an aftermarket remote start?

Yes. I have to go aftermarket regardless since the factory remote start requires factory-installed keyless entry, which I don't have and can't add.

Aftermarket keyless entry/remote start kit is $199 installed. I can go that route or I can wait/hope/pray that GM unlocks the 2014's ECU for service techs to enable features that GM didn't intend for my truck to have in the first place. I don't see GM doing that any time soon...

Man this sucks, I'm having issues with my remote start. It works when it wants to, everything was fine when I took it out of the dealership. That night after work, I turn it on with the remote and it worked first try, then my hids don't light up. IS NIGHT WTF DO I DO. So I drive home and I'm moving the light knob back and forth until about halfway home they turn on. Thank God, I get home and turn off the truck. Double lock it till it beeps then try to start it with the remote and nothing. The radio lights up but that's it. So I double lock it again and try it. BOOM Is alive, at least the truck not the the hids :-(

Following day at night after work I take apart the air filter and check my hid wires and everything is hooked up good but I double check, unplug, reconnect. It works, tuck the wires away and go back in the truck turn it on and everything is good. Put the air filter back close the hood. Try it again and FUDGE, dam hids don't turn on. I gave up. Unplugged the battery and left it like that all night and day until I got home today. Plugged the battery and turn the truck on manually, turn it off then double lock it and try the remote and nothing just the radio screen lights up with nothing on it. Tried it again and it turns on, check my hids and everything is good, I turn then on and off same with the truck and is all good. REMOTE START STILL ONLY WORKS WHEN I WANTS TO. I'm taking it back and having them check it.

I actually just called about this yesterday. Your truck (and mine) do not have the proper RPO code(s) for the factory remote start. However, you can add factory keyless entry for $73 (cost of the fob). I am having this done on Tuesday. Apparently, every truck that doesn't have the convenience package still has the keyless entry receiver installed (RPO code XL7). You simply have to get the factory key fob (3-button fob, all black, Part #13577771) and have it programmed by a dealership. From what I and a couple GM service techs understand, the 'SmartKey' fob for the factory remote start (4-button key fob, black/silver, Part #13577770) uses a different receiver frequency.

Basically:

If you do NOT have factory keyless entry, you can get it by having the proper key fob programmed for your truck;

If you have factory keyless entry, installed during assembly ONLY, you can add factory remote start with the GM kit.

This is not gospel. This is simply the way I and a couple of service techs understand it from looking through their computer system.

If I am wrong, please let me know.

IS THIS TRUE? I HAVE A 2014 WORK TRUCK. DID NOT COME WITH KEYLESS ENTRY BUT I AM WILLING TO PURCHASE THEY KEY FOB FROM DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM INSTALL IT. I WAS TOLD MY TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT RPO CODES TO EVEN PROGRAM THE KEYLESS ENTRY? I DONT REALLY BELEIVE THAT. I FIGURED EVERY TRUCK COULD HAVE AT LEAST THE KEYLESS ENTRY INSTALLED ON IT.

Just a quick update, I had my dealer use that same remote as listed above and the lead tech get it to work. It took him about ten minutes to get to work. I love having keyless entry!

I am in the same frustrating situation. I have a truck that has all the necessary hardware for remote start, but they will not authorize the code for dealer install. I have spoken with GM customer care and they are telling me that they may be able to authorize it I'm not sure yet what the outcome will be. I hope they can. Its pretty silly if you ask me.

All,

Here is what I learned about adding keyless entry to a 2014 1WT Silverado

I have a bare bones 1WT with power door locks only. I do not have on-star, I do not have power mirrors or windows. I do not have any factory key fobs or the RPO code AQQ

I do have RPO option XL7 and I can access tire pressure information from the center of the dash.

I visited my local Chevrolet dealer today and I left with fully functional keyless entry and remote start. It works flawlessly with a range of at least 50 yards.

what I did...

Based on some serious extensive research I have come to the conclusion that as long as you have an automatic transmission and the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) you should be good to go. Note:The module is the same for TPMS and remote door locks on 2014. Frequency is in the 315Mhz range.

The simplest way to add keyless entry IMO is to order the following kit: EXTENDED RANGE, INCLUDES 2 FOBS - 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 (Part #22997089) and have the dealer install it!

It costs around $200 for the kit and $200 for the install.

Why the kit? It comes with 2 fobs, a hood safety switch, harness and most importantly an authorization code. What may be a hold up for some is trying to add the fob only, ->without an authorization code<-. I am not sure how a tech would get a code for a system that did not come with AQQ? Regardless, with the above kit you get the fobs, the code and remote start!!

I do not know if adding only the black remote works....

I hope this helps those of you looking to do this. Let me know if it does!

I would like to add keyless entry to my truck. I have talked to countless dealerships and non want to mess with it. They all refer me to aftermarket. I actually got one installed and it sucks! it is the worst keyless entry system I have ever used. Any advise on how to get a dealer to install the factory/oem system.

    • Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?
    • Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.
    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!!
