Nice. I always thought that was a nice touch to these cars. I haven't twisted it yet, but I've put the tranny back together 4 times! Gettin pretty good at taking it out and putting it back in. Last time I dropped the luggage the wife was all :idiot:

4l60's are notorious for not lasting especially after they let go the 1st time. Might check into the 4L80 trans. Of course it's been since 2008 since I was around this stuff on a daily basis. I don't know about you but the new Camaro's just do nothing for me. I have so much more respect for the 4th gen and then obviously a well kept 3rd gen.

It's kind of a long story, and at least once was actually funny, but she's tough as nails now. I was trying to be cheap...cost more in the long run. It's good for 650+ hp now and I'm not close to that! I did contemplate a 4L80E, but I would have had to massage the floor pan considerably and I just couldn't bring myself to it!

Post some pics when the truck is in!

Will do!

My '99 Z28 with a LS1 383 stroker (441 rwhp, 448 rwtq) ate 4L60E's like they were marshmallows. And mine were full on "race built/bullet proof" versions. It's just a crappy transmission with certain parts that can't be beefed up enough. The car went a best of a 1.60 60' on an 11.43 @ 119.85, on Nitto drag radials. I grenaded the stock 7,5" diff on the first pass with the stroker, then blew the built tranny soon after, followed by 3 other complete catastrophic failures of the tranny's. I finally gave up and traded the car in on an AMG Mercedes. I still miss my stroker at times but certainly don't miss having the tranny replaced every 4-6 months.

The 200R4 in my Grand National is 10 times stronger than that 4L60E turd. But it sure was a fun car to drive...

im surprised yall lasted that long in the 10 bolt... I have a 02 SS m6 and I launch out of the hole like a grandma trying to preserve the weak 10 bolt... 2.2 60' 13.0x at 109mph if I remember correctly that was only nitto 555 radials. im pretty much stock just LT's ORY... my next mod and really as far as I want to go in mods in H/C/I like 60% of the 4th gens out there. and then obviously replacing the 10 bolt with a 12 bolt maybe a 9" idk.

oh btw congrats on the new truck!

That's a common told horror story of the 4l60's. It's all about luck with em. Sucks to hear you got rid of the car but can understand the frustration.

It's very rare to get a stock diff to do anything behind a 6spd LS combo, but that really sucks you blew it out at that level. I've been pretty lucky with mine I must say. I just found a sweet spot of the clutch and power that really launches the car without shocking the diff. But if you plan to keep the car for a long time and want to continue modding it, a 9" or 12 bolt is gonna be a must! For the LS 4th gens, I used to sell the crap out of the Moser units!

I figure my auto is the only thing that has saved my 10 bolt. Big difference in the shock loads from a tight auto vs side stepping the clutch at 5k rpm.

But you get that 3,400 stall coverter spooled up and wooohooo! :)

My old coworker had a Z28 H/C w/ Yank PT4400 working a stock diff. I think he actually he pulled off a 1.48 60' before it broke a few passes later. LOL

There is a breaking point for everything, and a 1.48 60' is pretty impressive on a 10 bolt, even if it only held for a few passes!
