Heated/Cooled vs Heated-only Seats

I'm ordering my new truck on Monday and I'm on the fence about the cooled seats. I read a lot on these forums about the new heated seats not being as good as the last generation (I have a 2010). Whether remote starting or otherwise. I could see how making room for the cooling system and the perforated leather itself might negatively affect the function of the heat.

 

My question is do you guys that have heat only find it to operate just like the previous generation ie good? or do the non perforated/cooled seats suffer a little from the design changes as well. I'm not really into the perforated leather anyway. It absorbs water like a chomis and gets clogged with well.....anything. sawdust, dirt, etc....

 

Actually I don't want cooled seats. I deffinatly don't want to spend the extra $650. BUT you can't get the driver alert package without them so.... I'm between a rock and a hard place.

I have the heated and cooled seats, big disappointment. The back gets warm nothing on the seat bottom. My 2002 was awesome compared to the 2014. Wish I found this seat before I ordered mine.

I have just the heated seats (not cooled) and they work just fine. I usually turn them on HI just to warm up, and within a few minutes, I'm turning them down to med/low, as the HI setting is too much. They work as advertised.

 

I don't think any of the heated seat options work all that great during remote start operation though, but once the key is in the ignition, my heated seats seam to work great.

The heated seat issue during remote start has NOTHING to do with remote starting/key in ignition/faulty seats/Etc. It has everything to do with the fact that your butt isn't IN the seat while it's on. If the seat heaters actually got the seat toasty without the extra insulation of your derrière, then we could fry eggs on them while you were seated.

I had heated/cooled seats on my 2009 suburban and now I have them in my 2014 Silverado as well. While I haven't had much seat time in my truck, the little bit that I did drive it I noticed when the heated seats were on high they didn't seem to get as warm as my Suburban seats did. For reference, I could never leave the Suburban heated seats on high for an extended period of time b/c they would burn my bum off.

 

To me, cooled are worth every penny no matter how well they function.

My heated only seats get blazin' hot. Even on the coldest days, I would keep them on 2 or 1. 3 gets really hot and I'd only leave them on for a minute or two to get them warmed up.

I didn't order them because I rode in my brother's Ford Raptor last summer and the "cooled" seat gave me the sensation that I'd peed myself and was sitting there with wet pants on.

 

As far as how the "heated" part works...as good as my previous trucks did. Additionally, I'm not too high on the perforated leather either.

I have the heated only seats. While not very warm with remote start when you get in. As stated above by others they do get warm fast once you are in the seat. I have never had heated seats before so I have nothing to compare them with.

I have the heated and cooled. Never had this level of luxury before so I can't compare to other seats. I've only used the heat once and it got too hot after about 10 minutes. I haven't used the cool function yet. I doubt I'll use it much. I ride my Harleys when it's hot. Now a cooled seat there would be good, after sitting out in the summer sun those seats get HOT. My truck had them with the other options I wanted. If I had to leave the truck outside in hot weather a lot I think I would spring for the heated and cooled.

We'll I'm not big guy I don't sweat and I don't think I'd use the cooling. All your advise is appreciated. It pretty well confirms what I thought. The cooling system and possibly the driver alert components in the seat take space and affect the effectiveness of the heat system.

 

Thanks again for the advise I'm not trying to bash anyone's cooled seat. If they work for you great I hope you enjoy them! Honestly if I lived further south I'd get them. But up here I use the heat 3-4months a year. I'm just trying to avoid a "big disappointment"

Heated seats only, i got the All Terrain Package. They work great, just like previous generations. I would have tried the cooled but you can't get them with the All Terrain Package.

I have the heated and cooled seat option. The Heated seats work OK after you sit in them for a few minutes I can typically leave them on the high without getting uncomfortable when it is pretty cold out. They DO NOT get nearly as warm as my 2009 heated seat only truck did on the high setting no matter how long you leave these on. My 2009 would BURN UR ARSE LOL. These 2014 heated seats are absolutely worthless to heat up in remote start. My 2009 was toasty warm in remote start, felt dang good when you sit down like you were in the lap of luxury, that was real easy to get used to. These 2014's feel like you are sitting on a block of friggin ice for 2 to 3 minutes after you sit down. Anyone that had the earlier model heated seats is going to be very disappointed with these heated and cooled seats in the remote start heat mode ..............But to answer the OP's question darned if I know as I have the heated and cooled version and they suc. According to ole Craftco whom posted two steps back the heated only seats work great and apparently actually heat up in remote start just like the previous years????. Sure would like for someone to confirm that. I may have my seats traded out if that is true. I bet I can get that done for around 5k. So Craftco are you 100% on your info that the heated only seats work just as well as the previous generation?? Just want to make sure before I spend this CASH. Holler back to confirm cause from other posters info I may have to call BS on this one LOL.

I was POed when I first found this issue right after purchase so I stopped in at the FORD dealership ( I know that is forbidden but it was necessary) and did a remote start on a Lariat with heated and cooled seats. It warmed up in remote start after just a couple of minutes WITHOUT THE help of an arse sitting in the seat. DELPHI and GM dropped the ball on the 2014 heated and cooled seats they simply SUC when compared to earlier models and unfortunately FORD and probably the MOPAR product but I have not tested it.

Heated only leather in my All Terrain SLT. They do get warm during a remote start, agreed not super warm though.

With the key in, level 3 turned on is MEGA hot, I usually leave it on level 1, maybe level 2 if tis really cold out.

Test drove a truck with the cooled seats, wasn't a huge fan of it. IMO the fact that the warm air blows out the back just kills the usefulness of it.
