But ain't the 4L60e supposed to be GM's finest automatic transmission?

Sure, just ask them! I can't knock it too much though, honestly. How many of these units are in use? The numbers are mind boggling. Everything from Colorados to Silverados to Express Vans. Their trouble rate has to be among the lowest.

For that starting issue I would wonder if the fuel pump is going bad (i.e. a bad check valve that lets the fuel system lose it's pressure if it sits a long time). The next time you do a cold start, turn the key to "on" then "off" 3-4 times or so and see if it doesn't start on the first try. If that is the case then you can almost guarantee bad fuel pump.

Or let's say this, it's guaranteed that it's losing it's prime after sitting for long periods.

Sometimes you can hear the pump engage if it sounds weak change it.

Although, this is an irrelevant vehicle, but your hypothesis on a weak-sounding fuel pump on a Chevy truck being an indication of a fuel pump needing replacement may as well apply to my 2004 Chevrolet Impala 3.4. The fuel pump sound kinda weak and not as strong like my 07 Silverado classic 4.3

My 03 has been doing this for 5 - 6 years now, If you jump in and turn the key it won't start on the first try but if you turn the key to on and let it sit for 4 - 5 seconds it firs right up. I've let it go because I figured it would eventually stop working and then I would fix it but it hasn't.

My 02 Silverado was Indigo Blue.

Beautiful color when the sun came up in the morning (when the truck was clean)

Sold it when gas hit $2.00 a gallon....I panicked and bought a Honda Civic.

But then traded the Honda in on 09 Silverado, and won't trade again....been there....done that!
