GMPP prices and value

I just received in the mail the first sales pitch to buy a GM Protection Plan from GMAC Service Agreement Corp. The 5 yr/100,000 Miles/$100 deductible 'plan' was quoted at $1,615. Typically I do not buy extended warranties but I did on my wife's 2010 Subaru Outback but only after finding out I could buy the Subaru warranty from *ANY* Subaru dealer - so I price shopped on the Subaru forum and was able to buy the same plan as my dealer quoted for $1795 for $800 - and my dealer then matched the lower price.

So, how about the 2014 Silverado's - are they needed and worth the price, or as many suggest - just put the money in the bank and use it if needed after the bump-to-bumper ends. What if I were to want a GMPP, are there dealer who will offer a plan for a really low price and would like to be mentioned on this forum?

There is a post/subject somewhere else about dealers only doing warranty work on their specific brands and refusing to do cross brand work - GMC, Chevy, etc. but when reading about the GMPP I see: "Enjoy your vehicle for years to come by protecting it with Major Guard, the premier vehicle service contract powered by Ally.

Its choice youll have to make for yourself. But here is something to consider.

1. How long do you plan on keeping the vehicle

2. How many miles do you drive a year

3. What exactly does the warranty cover

Remember you get bumper to bumper for rought 3 years and power train for 5 years. Also at 1600 bucks thats probably 2-3 break jobs, replacing an alternator and starters worth. I kind of view these things as paying for repairs up front.

personally I would never buy one until your nearing your original warranty end date, doesnt make any sense to me as they will always be available to from the flyers you get in the mail.

GMPP is excellent for customers. Crap for technicians. GMPP is never "bumper to bumper" so be careful. It does cover most things though. Most trim is not covered. Especially interior, Normal brake wear not covered either. Any GM dealer should work on your truck under GMPP.

any GM Dealer should work on his truck period - that is the issue more so anymore that dealers ride the high road while brand customers cars set in a lot because they did not purchase them from there.

I just received this letter in the mail this week as well. I was wondering about the same thing. Not so much for any mechanical failures and I can usually fix those myself, what I have trouble diagnosing mainly is computer problems. for example if any of the computers start acting up. or if the screen in the intellilink goes out. I don't know im still debating on whether it worth the money or not. im definitely going to shop around and wait until I am near the 36k mile mark. I have only had my truck since November and I have about 11,3xx miles on it. so I will hit the 36k mark before my three years are up.
